Dawn French
Dawn French trained as a drama teacher at The Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Here she met Jennifer Saunders, and the rest is history.
Jennifer spotted an advert for comediennes at The Comic Strip in 1980 and they applied as a duo. 'We were just the first creatures with boobs to walk through the door,' she joked.
In 1987 they got their own TV sketch show - the cunningly titled French and Saunders. Towards the early 90s, both comediennes pursued solo projects. While Jennifer Saunders launched Absolutely Fabulous, Dawn French appeared in the dark comedy series Murder Most Horrid.
Mainstream success followed with The Vicar of Dibley playing unconventional, female vicar, the Reverend Geraldine Granger.
Most recently Dawn appears in the 91Èȱ¬ ONE comedy Wild West, written by Men Behaving Badly creator Simon Nye. Dawn has appeared in Tom and Alice (playing a woman in love with an alien) and was reunited with Jennifer for the French and Saunders Spring Special in 2002.
