Using multiplication to create models (signed)
Description
Guy Bagley, one of the model makers at Legoland, explains how he uses multiplication to work out how many Lego bricks he needs to build models for a model village.
Classroom Ideas
Ask the children if they have been to Legoland and locate it on a map. Using pictures as a stimulus for the models, get the children to discuss the number of bricks used to make them. (Observe if, throughout the discussion, the children are making connections with their tables when they are finding the area of the bricks). Show the clip to explain. Explain to the children that they have been set the challenge to create their own model, however they will only be able to do this if they have the correct number of bricks. Using isometric paper and bricks, get the children to make jottings for the notes on their design, making connections with their tables.
