Dividing by ten (signed)
Description
An illustration of dividing by ten is given by dancing numbers in the gym. By dancing and diving over decimal points, the digits demonstrate how to divide by ten.
Classroom Ideas
This clip can be used in a lesson on the unique rule when dividing by ten. Pupils can be given pieces of paper with numbers written on them in a large front. They can also be given a cut-out decimal point. After watching the clip, they can be asked to divide their numbers by ten using the movable decimal point to help them. They can then be asked to record all of their answers via writing out the full number sentence for what they have worked out (for example 283 / 10 = 28.3).
