How can you cope with feeling angry?

Description

A group of children describe what they do when they feel angry to help them calm down. Some of the children are able to describe how their anger feels. A role-play illustrates that there are alternatives to letting anger take over and shows how a 鈥榯raffic lights鈥 system can help to think through fiery moments.

Classroom Ideas

Students could take part in a circle time activity sharing times when they have felt angry. They could describe what made them feel this way, what they thought about, and how they reacted. Did it lead to negative behaviour? Students could explore the situations where someone confesses they reacted badly, and consider how they could have resolved the situation in a more positive manner.

They could use the traffic light system described in this clip. What techniques could they use to stop and calm themselves down? Moving onto amber, what possible solutions could there be? And finally students could decide upon the best method of action and how they could go about this.

Alternatively, students could design posters to share the traffic light strategy for managing anger with others.
