The 91热爆 Tees/TJFA Recognition Award

The recognition award is given each week on 91热爆 Tees Sport, Thursdays between 7.30pm and 8pm, when Alastair Brownlee and the Teesside Junior Football Alliance give a special pat on the back to a team that's achieved something great this week.

January 08 Winner -Saltburn Athletic

There were a number of Cup matches played (I'm delighted to say!) last weekend and a selection threw up some "giant-killing" acts but none quite as distinctive as this one:

Saltburn Athletic Under 13 travelled to Billingham Town in the second round of the TJFA Challenge Cup. Saltburn are currently top of the SIXTH Division but were playing away to a Team from the SECOND division.

The scores finished level at 1 apiece at the end of normal time and the tie went into extra time.

Saltburn Athletic were brilliant in the extra time period and ran out winners by 4 goals to 1 to secure their place in the next round. To score only one goal in normal time and hold out against higher placed opposition is one thing, but to score three times in an additional 20 minute period, without reply, is quite amazing.

January 15 Winner - Nunthorpe Youth Club Under 16

After a great performance the weekend before when they won their first match of the season in the TJFA Challenge Cup, they won their first League game on Sunday gone when they beat Kirk Merrington by 3 goals to 1 . Kirk Merrington are flying high and had only lost one game out of seven previously so it was a real "underdog" performance by Nunthorpe who had gained only one League point previously.

To make it even more meritous, they were also a goal down to start with and must have been thinking "here we go again" but the lads showed tremendous character and playing some great football pulled the match back level and then went on to record a superb victory.

January 22 Winner - Bill Hamer and Great Ayton Under 12s

Great Ayton Juniors are a "family run" and family orientated Club and have made many friends over the last three or four years. They are extremely well managed overall and, as well as managing the Under 12's (above) their Club Secretary is one of the most pleasant guys in the game. He has managed to source funding from a number of sponsors and local businesses and this season his U12 Team and one or two others under the Great Ayton Club banner, notably the Under 14's having lost just one match in nine, are beginning to repay the loyalty shown by those generous sponsors.

January 29 Winner - Paul Green, New Marske Football Club

Involved with New Marske Football Club for eight years, previously as Secretary and who now deals with all correspondence on behalf of the Club, he does much, much more.

When he took over the "reins" there were six junior Teams and now there are 11, including a senior section and a girls set-up.

He has pushed the Club on from their basic formation to an FA Charter Standard Club and is now entering the final stages of the most advanced award as a Community Status Club. He has secured three additional pitches at a neighbouring school (Westgarth) and is also extending the site at New Marske to be capable of holding all of their home matches at just one venue.
