BEN:I can't wait for Harley's birthday party. It was nice of her to invite you too, wasn't it Breagha?
BREAGHA:Yes.
BEN:They'll be games and cake and loads of my friends! I have to get ready!
RADHA:You don't seem quite as excited as Ben, Breagha?
BREAGHA:Well, the thing is鈥 Ben knows Harley and all her friends. I don鈥檛 know any of them. And when I think about going to the party, It makes me feel鈥 Oww.
RADHA:Breagha?
BREAGHA:This is how I feel, like, hiding away.
RADHA:Oh I think I know that feeling Breagha? You're feeling shy. 'If you get a little worked up when you have to speak to someone. Or you feel nervous when you have to do something in front of others. Then maybe you're feeling shy?
BREAGHA:That's just how I feel.
BEN:Ta-da! Well, what do you think? Oh, you don't like my hat?
RADHA:No it's very nice Ben. It's Breagha, she's feeling shy about going to the party. It's OK Breagha, lots of different things can make us feel shy.
BREAGHA:Have you felt shy before?
BEN:Especially when I have to sing in front of people. Then I feel really shy.
RADHA:I felt shy just last week.
BOTH:You did?
RADHA:Yes. I was at my friends party, and I was dancing with lots of people that I didn鈥檛 know.
BEN:Dancing? Yeah! WOO!
RADHA:Do you want to tell us a little bit more about why you're feeling shy about going to the party Breagha?
BEN:Oh yes do Breagha and then, maybe I might be able to help.
BREAGHA:Er, OK.
BREAGHA:'I keep thinking that, when Ben and I are at Harleys party, 'I won't know anyone. 'And Ben might leave me on my own.
PARTY GUESTS:Ben!
BREAGHA:'I might not want to join in with the birthday party games. 'And what if there's dancing? 'I love dancing, 'but I might not want to dance with people I don鈥檛 know.
BEN:Come on Breagha!
BREAGHA:'And I keep thinking, when it's cake time, 'what if Ben is with his friends and I might be too shy 'to sit beside someone for cake?'
Happy birthday dear Harley, happy birthday to you!
ALL:Hip hip hooray!
BREAGHA:'I'm just not sure how much fun I'll have at the party.'
RADHA:It's OK to feel this way, we all do sometimes. Especially with people that we don鈥檛 know. In fact, I think they'll be lots of people at the party who feel shy too.
BREAGHA:Really?
RADHA:But, we can choose what to do when we're feeling shy. So when I felt shy dancing at the party, I did some really silly moves, to make myself relax and feel better. Like this.
LAUGHING
BEN:And when they have to sing in front of people, I imagine them, in their pyjamas. Then I don鈥檛 feel nearly as shy!
RADHA:There are lots of different ways that we can feel better when we're feeling shy. Why don鈥檛 we ask our feelings friends to help us?
BOTH:Oh yes!
RADHA:Hi Holly and Lisa.
HOLLY:Hello.
BOTH:Hello!
RADHA:We're going to show Breagha some ways to make you feel better, if you feel shy? And actually Breagha, you've already done one of those today. When Holly and Lisa came in you said, "Hello!". And when you go to the party, you can say hello to someone new too.
BREAGHA:Oh yes I could, couldn鈥檛 I?
RADHA:And, you can start asking them questions to start a conversation, like鈥 "What's your favourite colour?"
HOLLY:Blue.
RADHA:Blue? Wow! Why don鈥檛 you have a go Ben?
BEN:Umm, OK. What's your favourite animal?
LISA:A bunny rabbit.
BEN:Oh bunny rabbits?
RADHA:Brilliant.
BEN:I love cats! And Elephants. ELEPHANT ROAR
LAUGHING
RADHA:Why don鈥檛 you have a go, Breagha?
BREAGHA:Umm鈥 What's your favourite game?
LISA:I like playing with my dolls.
BREAGHA:Ah, me too! We could play together.
LISA:Yes.
RADHA:That鈥檚 a great idea! When you join in and play a game, you start having fun and you start to forget about feeling shy.
BEN:And I'll be with you Breagha, to introduce you to all my friends. And make sure you enjoy the party.
BREAGHA:Yes. Thank you so much for helping Holly and Lisa.
LISA:You're welcome.
RADHA:Aww, thank you.
