Sounds like you are really enjoying yourself, wish I was there!

Quite agree, the small moments knit together to make the real substance of content. We are only too aware in the current climate of how much we do not want to live in the interesting times of the chinese curse.

How very descriptive you write about Jura. Can't wait to read about Hogmanay on your island. Any photos you can post LOJ. It would be really nice to see them.

I like the way you paint pictures of island life in not-too-many words.

Open fires are very special things ... at certain times of the night, under certain circumstances, they can be Portkeys or secret paths into parts of your consciousness that you don't usually access directly ... :-) You only have to watch the changing shapes in the dancing, glowing flames, and watch the heat-haze throb and ebb on the coals to gain entry to all sorts of thoughts ... Small things - yes - its always the small things ... Watching my ducks do their early-morning synchronised tai-chi, s-l-o-w-l-y stretching leg and wing in unison while remaining perfectly-balanced does it for me every time ...! Even something as simple as a perfectly-structured and arranged fresh fungus growth by the roots of a tree ... especially if it is a pleasing colour ...The kindness of strangers, even on the phone sometimes ... A pluperfectly-executed task ... done with pizazz and panache this once ...
soaplady from loving her own fire too ...!
Although I would like to see some photos, you did paint a lovely pictures with words...

I can picture it LoJ. You mention gloaming, is this the last hour or so before the sun goes down or is it an even narrower timescale than that?
Carol from IBHQ
if my understanding is correct, gloaming (or gloamin' if you're a scot and have 'roamed' in it!) is the same as dusk, which according to the dictionary is the later stage of twilight (the soft glowing light from the sky when the sun is below the horizon). ahhhhh...roamin' in the gloamin' by the bonnie banks of clyde, roamin' in the gloamin' wi' a lassie by my side, those were the days...!
scottie from roamin' in the gloamin'...!
If you roamed in the gloamin on the bonnie banks o Clyde nowadays, you'd probably be confronted by an angry ned with nothing to loose.
Flying Cat from getting a taxi
Ahhhh...the Clyde does meander through some peaceful parts of the countryside countryside as well as towns and cities...
Scottie from Still roamin after alll these years...!
Very good post LoJ # "Watching my ducks do their early-morning synchronised tai-chi," That's an interesting description Soaplady: it certainly took me by surprise. Shades of "Calendar Girls" When the ducks start on yoga, let me know: remember, pics!! Muscovies are amazing: the things they are liable to do if you don't eat them first.
