I thought it sounded like Loch Lomond too! I love a bit of Eurovision! ;-)

It was a fine class, wasn't it

Was Alan Plater in the Northern Isles. he recently wrote one of the three 'Lewis' episodes. Am interested in screenwriting myself. Ask Anne at IBHQ for my email if that's allowed and maybe we can have a natter.
calumannabel from Lewis and beyond
Can you give us more info. re: Lewis episodes, Calum.? Is it just local programming (for UK)? Of course, Plater is a wonderful playwright. He did the script for Oliver's Travels and, if my memory serves me right, for Barchester Chronicles (both wonderful productions).

Fpu bought a signed copy of Oliver's Travels at a charity auction once......it and the programme are a very enyoyable tarradiddle. He's done stuff for the community drama element of the St Magnus Festival which went down very well. I'm wondering if mjc knows that Lewis is the follow-on to the Morse series with the late John Thaw? Which was probably sold all over the world, as will its successor no doubt.

No, FC, as you correctly guessed, I did not connect old sergeant Lewis with Calum.'s note. Thought the Lewis Calum. wrote about had something to do with Lewis (if not Harris)- Western Isles. I don't think the episodes are on DVD yet, and I am not aware that they were shown on tv in this country. I know that a few of the Morse episodes were shown on US TV: not bad.

"I'll be in Scotland afore you" mind you it was a fair song and if we listened to Sir Tog Meister, it won.
Lerwick Trevor from Lerwick
While there's many a good tune played on an old fiddle, Sirtel got his strings in a fankle this time... Apart from a dead fridge, LerwickTrevor, are you well?

Ah, finally nailed the firewall prob and can respond to all you lovely bloggers out there. Briefly...haven't seen any Lewis yet, not yet recovered from the trauma of losing Morse and John Thaw. Calumannabel, yeah, I'm new to the writing malarkey, although wanted to try for years. We have a lovely 'writing fellow' here. Not sure screenwriting's my thing, more ahort stories and possibly novel. Get me, eh? Re Oliver's Travels, Alan P said it was the only thing he'd written where he didn't like the finished production. said he's written it for his mate Tom courteny and felt Alan Bates was wrongly cast. Also he said he was uhappy about how it had dealt with Orkney. Must say I found it mildly diverting (I like a nice crossword), but I actually missed the last episode as I was on holiday camping in Orkney (living in Embra at the time)! Total c-up by El Tel. Clear yer desk Wogan. I felt v sorry for the lassie, even if she was singing Loch Lomond.

Interesting how Alan Plater was not happy with Oliver's Travels. Was it merely because Tom Courteny did not get the part? Did he say how he felt he could have dealt with Orkney better. I must say I liked Oliver's Travels very much, including the music with the ferry under way.

I LOVE Oliver's Travels. Were there only ever 5 episodes done? Thanks so much.
