Bottom drawing.: good to see the model has feet, including a boot on the left foot, but why does s/he have only a sock on the right, and why is the foot all shrivelled up? Just asking .... [I certainly could not do any better!!]. I must admit to liking top drawing best of all.

Great quick-sketching! I love it cause it makes you forget your brain. You did so well, I especially love the last shadow figure/negative space. Great drawings. Andrea

Hello Island Threads. Am I your "Acutely Imposter Commenter"? (See "Changes") I really do live on Tiree. First time I'd commented (and managed to add my comment to the wrong date!) - in answer - my answer anyway - to why more people don't blog, although have been reading on and off for a while. I especially like your blog because it's textiles. And your drawings. Especially the negative space one - looks like she might jump down off the fence at any minute. I'm not v.good at drawing - usually not much more than diagrams/construction notes on bits of paper - or collage if I absolutely have to show someone an idea before I've made it - but I bought myself a sketchbook in oban last week and have vowed to use it! I love your blog but I don't think I'm ready to do one yet.

Frances, your sketches look great. I almost always draw the negative space 脗鈥 especially when the subject is complicated. You are very brave to forgo pencil and eraser!

These sketches are wonderful - give me the ones without the feet anytime! Seriously, the first two capture a lot and each of them tells a story.

Hi Frances Brilliant sketches ! Neg space is so hard to work with ! im only just starting to stop being so negative.. ok scared, of negative space, but then i do fine it easier to be comfortable with neg spacce than i do with confronting white. Anyhoo, must go pack, hopefully, lots of tree sketching next week !! Angela

I like the middle one, feet or no, she looks really rooted to the ground. It's so easy to draw people who mysteriously levitate.

Oh wow thanks so much everyone for this wonderful encouragement,
