The issue of bird strikes etc is a complicated one as nobody, surely, wants to do anything that could directly hurt wildlife etc. But, what about the affect of global warming on seabird colonies, they're starving to death i think due to changes in the sea temperatures etc. A good example is that of a pal of mine who now catches sea bass off of Ness beach - that until very recently was a fish caugth off Devon and Cornwall. We need to do something to protect wildlife from global warming - lewis wind factory may not be the answer for many other reasons but we need to see the big picture when it comes to the impact of global warming on animal life.

Better idea still would be start with ensuring that Industry and individuals save wasted energy before we start on such a destructive, short-term projec as the wind factory. Ideally, the Islands should be a model of energy effeciency but while they talk about windmills by the hundred that will create a blot on the landscape the other hand is talking about making a marina in Stornoway to attract Southerners to fly up here at weekends!!!

I agree with you IT, and it is all to do with money, not saving the planet. I'm shocked at Peatstack's comment, I would never had thought that Peatstack had any pals ( LOL, etc.) and I'm getting a hint that Big AL, may well be against windfarms in Lewis, is it because they would block his "all seeing eye" ???

Angela, I think one reason they want the wind factory is so they can say they are 'off setting' their carbon emissions from flying and carry on as usual,

seems crazy to me to turn this place into a wind factory to produce 'green' carbon free(whatever!!) energy when so many people here are legally allowed to still burn coal and and peat to chuck pollution back up into the atmosphere. Kindof hypocrytical dont you think??

We all let the electric company burn coal to provide us with our electricity, some people use less electricity and burn coal themselves in their home, it evens out in the end, to me the hypocrite is the company that buys green shares to pretend it is doing something to help global warming, like the airlines selling 'off set' shares but making more fights, to help reduce global warming you CUT flights,
