The Waiting Game
In the first of a new series of Case Notes Dr Mark Porter takes his seat in the waiting room to find out how health centres and hospitals are working to reduce waiting times.
He visits surgeries that have revamped their booking systems to give appointments more rapidly.
Mark asks if the current range of options for patients with minor problems – such as NHS Walk in centres – is the answer to cutting waiting lists.
A real improvement?
The Department of Health has just issued figures to show that the number of patients in England waiting for hospital treatment is now at its lowest level for 17 years.
But there are questions over who is getting treated first – are they the simpler cases?
Other parts of the UK – Wales for example - are not doing as well at reducing waiting times. We ask why.
