Sune Hjerrild was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music from 1994 to 1999, and then at the Royal Opera Academy from 1999 to 2002. His principal teachers were Tony Landy and Susanna Eken, and he has also studied with Anthony Rolfe Johnson and Daniel Ferro.
In 2001 he won the Sony Music Young Classical Talent Award, the Yamaha Foundation of Europe Prize 'Danish Young Singer of the Year 2001' and the Laurens Bogtman Award. In 2003 he won the Sonning Music Stipend to support his studies abroad. In 2003 he reached the semi final of the Lake Constance Region Operalia.
Sune Hjerrild's operatic roles include Belmonte Die Entf眉hrung aus dem Serail, Esben Hosekraemmeren (Schultz) for Regional Opera of Odense, Cassio Otello at Tivoli Garden, Copenhagen, title role Idomeneo at L'Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing, Tamino Die Zauberfl枚te for Limoges Opera, Maintop Billy Budd for Royal Danish Opera, Rodolfo La boh猫me at Clonter Opera and the Rialto Theatre, Copenhagen, and Gastone La traviata at the Royal Danish Opera.
Future plans included Jaquino Fidelio at Leipzig Opera, and Mozart's Requiem in Copenhagen. He also sings in oratorio.
Sune Hjerrild is a member of the Theosophical Association in Denmark, plays golf, and likes to collect good wine.
