Wendy Dawn Thompson was born in New Zealand. She completed her B.Mus (Hons) at Victoria University of Wellington. Prizes include the 1998 NZ Young Performer of the Year. In 2000 she was a Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist with NBR New Zealand Opera.

Wendy studied at the RNCM from 2001, and in 2004 graduated from the Advanced Opera studies at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at the RCM, London. In 2003 she won the Kathleen Ferrier and Royal Overseas League Competitions.

Roles have included Dorabella Cosi fan Tutte for Garsington Opera (also her debut role with Opera Australia in Sydney in 2004), Der Komponist Ariadne auf Naxos (Aldeburgh Productions), Hermia A Midsummer Night's Dream (British Youth Opera), title role Agrippina, Mrs Grose Turn of the Screw, Florence Pike Albert Herring, Second Lady Die Zauberfl枚te (BBIOS).

In January 2005 she recorded Love of Three Oranges for Chandos Records, conducted by Richard Hickox. Future plans include The Death of Klinghoffer (NBR New Zealand Opera) and Minerva The Return of Ulysses (Birmingham Opera Company).

Wendy has given recitals at Wigmore Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Aldeburgh Festival, Purcell Room and the Belfast Festival.
