Sergejs Jegers was born in Riga, Latvia, and graduated from the Latvian Academy of Music in 2003, where he studied under Karlis Zarins and Andris Veismanis.
At the time of the competition he was studying as a countertenor with Andreas Scholl at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland) and was continuing his Masters degree studies as a countertenor at the Latvian Academy of Music.
At Latvian National opera he has performed as the Angel in Rubinstein's The Demon (2003); the title role in Handel's Rinaldo (2004), and Ruggiero in Handel's Alcina (2004). He sang the title role in Gluck's Orpheus and Euridice in a festival project in Cesis.
Sergejs Jegers has performed in numerous concerts, among them Handel's Messiah, Bach's Cantata BWV 170, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, and Vivaldi's Cantatas 'O mie porpore pi belle' and 'Cessate, omai cessate'. He appeared as the Angel in Rubinstein's The Demon in Latvian National Opera's performances at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Finland.
Festival appearances planned subsequent to the competition included Gluck's Orpheus and Euridice in New Caledonia, concerts in Australia and New Zealand and Handel's Alcina in Balteseasons Festival in Kaliningrad, Russia.
He enjoys cooking and travelling.
