Outspoken Avril and wildlife fanatic Jo have known each other for聽three years through their allotment patches, but they have grown even closer since applying for The Big Allotment Challenge.

Their allotments are a place for socialising as much as gardening and they often organise barbeques in the summer and dinner parties in the winter, not to mention the weekly tea and biscuits around the communal table. Avril likes to try out new recipes and often takes her baking efforts聽to the allotments聽for the rest of the gardeners to sample and critique.

Their approach to gardening is rather different; Jo likes to play it safe whereas Avril describes herself as a bit of a maverick.

Jo says on her allotment she鈥檚 really organised, whereas at home she is the complete opposite. In contrast Avril is a neat freak at home, but on her allotment she sees it as her free space and likes to throw things in here, there and everywhere. They think the combination of the two styles聽will work well.

They are used to working independently and on their own allotments with their own ideas, but they hope that they know each other well enough to be able to discuss things and work out a compromise where necessary.
