Roland was born in Berkshire and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and then at the National Opera Studio, London with support from the Peter Moores Foundation and English National Opera.
In 2000 he won second prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards.
Originally a bass-baritone, Roland was a Company Principal with Scottish Opera for whom he had performed the roles of Dr Falke Die Fledermaus, Marullo Rigoletto and Papageno The Magic Flute.
Roland was due to perform Schaunard La boh猫me, and had previously made his ENO debut as Baron Douphol La traviata. Roland had also taken part in concerts all over the UK and in Europe.
His hobbies include cinema-going, cooking, reading, going to the gym and snowboarding.
