Bai climbing a tree to catch a monkey
There are a few moments in life when someone’s physicality leaves you breathless. This happened as I watched the footage of the monkey hunt with Bai at my side. Seeing him scale a tree over 100 feet tall with just some vine wrapped around his feet for extra traction was amazing.
Bai and Gordon are roughly similar ages, and Gordon is in good physical shape – but I was so glad that the Waorani didn’t volunteer Gordon to fetch the evening meal from the top of that tree. Everything out in the jungle is hard won and the lengths that they go to, just to be able to feed their families are incredible.
