    91Èȱ¬ Secretary Amber Rudd told ITV's Peston on Sunday it was right that the general election should go ahead on Thursday, despite the suspension of campaigning by the major parties today.

    They are out to attack our values, our way of life, our democracy, our freedoms. It would be wrong to knock any of those in this period now. Everybody I speak to is absolutely clear that they want the election to go ahead on Thursday. None of the parties are going to be campaigning today so nobody gets an advantage: the fact is I believe we should go ahead, as the Prime minister said, on Thursday.

    Many of the bars and restaurants that would normally be opening ready to welcome families for Sunday lunch remain with their shutters down.

    But Arife Buz, 34, who works in Borough off-licence, said London Bridge was busier with people than she would normally expect at the weekend.

    "It's business as usual for us. We checked with the police whether we could open and they said it was okay.

    "It looks so busy here. It's not usually like this at the weekend as all the offices around here are closed.

    "I freaked out when I heard about the attack. It's very scary."

  5. Rudd: "We think they have caught all the main perpetrators"

    91Èȱ¬ Secretary Amber Rudd tells ITV's Peston on Sunday the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, which reports to MI5, decided not to raise the terrorism threat level. She said it believed there were not likely to be more perpetrators at large:

    We don’t believe there are additional elements which could be carrying on the attack last night. JTAC has made that assessment, so they haven’t recommended going to critical. We can’t be 100% sure, the police are still carrying on their operation, but if JTAC thought there were more people out there who could be extending this attack I expect they would have considered raising it. We’re staying at severe because we think they have caught all the main perpetrators.

    The 91Èȱ¬'s security correspondent Frank Gardner has said the timing of the recent terror attacks in the UK may have more to do with so-called Islamic State's call to intensify attacks during Ramadan, rather than to directly target the UK's general election.

    “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and I would like to pay tribute to the emergency services for their professional response in such terrible circumstances.

    "The terrorists kill us because they hate us and what we stand for. They hate our democracy and our freedom. We refuse to let them win. We must respond with a vigorous commitment to our democracy.

    "The election must go ahead as planned. It is right that we suspend our national campaigning for a short while out of respect for those affected by these tragic events, but local campaigning can and must continue.

    The remainder of this campaign must be a collective showing of defiance and pride in our democratic values."

  13. Eyewitness saw stabbed man 'wandering around in the street'

    Eyewitness Liam told 91Èȱ¬ Radio 5 live he was looking out of the window of a flat in Borough Market when he saw a young man trying to get the attention of ambulance crews outside the Southwark Tavern, saying his friend had been stabbed.

    He said he then saw another "dazed" man who looked like he had been stabbed "wandering around in the street".

    While we have made significant progress in recent years, there is - to be frank - far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.   16. We need to regulate cyberspace - May

    Speaking after chairing a meeting of the government's emergency committee Cobra, the prime minister also spoke about the need to deal with terrorism, saying the UK needed to work with international leaders to shut down areas of the internet used by terrorists to communicate.

    Mrs May said there needs to be an international agreement to "regulate cyberspace" where extremists have "safe spaces".

    We cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed. Yet that is precisely what the internet, and the big companies that provide internet-based services provide.

    Peter, who lives on Stoney Street in London Bridge, saw the attack out of his window.

    He said the street went "silent and riot police came in with guns pointed... and they sort of just kept position there for a while".

    He said he was then ordered to evacuate and told to head across Southwark Bridge.

    "When we were on the bridge the police started yelling and shouting at us to get down, we had to sort of crouch when we were running over the bridge so it was really scary, a lot of people were crying," he said

  20. 'The UK must pull together' - May

    Theresa May confirmed the Conservatives and Labour have suspended their national election campaigns as mark of respect. But she said "violence must can never be allowed to disrupt the democratic process", saying those campaigns will "resume in full tomorrow and the general election will go ahead as planned on Thursday".

    The prime minister said the UK must "come together, we must pull together and unite we will take on and defeat our enemies".
