Plant and animal cell structures

Description

A look at the cells of different organisms and a comparison of the structures found in plant and animal cells. All animal cells are surrounded by a membrane which contains the cytoplasm. Nearly all animal cells contain a nucleus. Plants produce food through photosynthesis. Most of this process takes place in an organelle unique to plant cells, called the chloroplast.

Classroom Ideas

Students can examine a variety of different plant cells and animal cells from different tissue or blood samples under the microscope. They can discuss the different shapes and sizes observed and propose how these are related to cell function.
