Self-reflection

It is important to self-reflect on the quality and accuracy of your performance skills after every practice session or performance.

Practising the violin

When conducting self-reflection, you need ensure that you:

  • identify the strengths in a performance
  • identify the areas that are less convincing
  • identify the technical aspects that need to be developed
  • set targets for future performances

During the National 5 course you will have many opportunities to perform, so there will be lots of opportunities to self-reflect, particularly during your practice routine. Other opportunities to conduct self-reflection include:

  • during music lessons
  • individually with your instrumental teacher
  • in class with your peers
  • in groups and ensembles, in school and outwith school
  • at home as you practice
  • in assemblies and/or concerts
