Manchester City will rue a missed opportunity to shrink Barcelona's lead to 2-1 with Chloe Kelly's penalty miss early in the second half.

They also had a disallowed goal for offside by Sam Mewis in the first half.

Chances from Ellen White, Georgia Stanway and Caroline Weir too but Barcelona deserved their win.

The second leg takes place at the Academy Stadium on 31 March.

Barcelona will carry a big lead into the second leg. A disappointing afternoon for Manchester City.

Rose Lavelle is forced back. It comes to Sam Mewis but her ball over the top rolls back to the keeper unchallenged.

One away goal would massively help City's chances here still. They play the second leg at the Academy Stadium so will have home advantage.

As it stands, they need to score three goals without reply at home to force extra time.

Lauren Hemp races away on the left again and puts a really good ball in to Georgia Stanway.

She has her back to goal when she controls it and flicks it up. Stanway then tries an overhead but it's straight in the arms of the keeper.

Patri Guijarro is offside as she tried to sneak in behind and she questions the decision afterwards.

Into the book...

Lucy Bronze carries the ball out for City. She finds Caroline Weir in the middle, who switches it over to Demi Stokes.

She tries to slide it down the line for Lauren Hemp but Barcelona have raced back into shape quickly and stop the counter-attack.

It's floated in low towards the near post, where Jenni Hermoso tries to flick it on.

Abby Dahlkemper is there to make the block.

Lieke Martens' cross deflects off Demi Stokes and out for a corner.

Around 10 minutes to go.

Marta Torrejon is replaced by Anna Crnogorcevic. Straight swap at right-back for Barcelona.

Caroline Weir's free-kick is headed towards the far corner by Abby Dahlkemper. She's offside as the keeper makes the save anyway though.

Caroline Weir does well to win the ball in midfield and lays it off to Lauren Hemp on the left.

She has Georgia Stanway and Weir waiting in the middle but the final ball isn't good enough.

Lucy Bronze hooks a long ball forward for Georgia Stanway. The bounce doesn't quite fall for Stanway - if it had, she would have been in.

Excellent from Lauren Hemp again! She 'Maradona' turns away from three defenders, lays it off to Georgia Stanway and she cuts it back to Sam Mewis in the box.

Mewis drags the shot wide. Barcelona's Patri Guijarro also had a long range effort at the other end a few moments before.

On comes Manchester City's Georgia Stanway for Ellen White. Rose Lavelle is on for Chloe Kelly too.

Jenni Hermoso, Barcelona's top goalscorer, is also on. She replaces Asisat Oshoala, while Kheira Hamraoui is on for Aitana Bonmati in midfield.

Lauren Hemp pings it in from the left but Caroline Weir is stretching as she flicks it on feebly in the box.

Comfortable for the keeper.

Worth pointing out that Barcelona last conceded two goals in a 3-2 win over Atletico in the Spanish Supercoppa semi-final in February 2020.

They last conceded three in the 4-1 loss to Lyon in the 2019 Champions League final.

City have the return leg of course, but to score at least twice past Barcelona is a tall ask it seems.

Chloe Kelly puts a great ball in from the right, Ellen White gets across her marker and meets it but can only poke it into the keeper's arms from close range.
