Grundy sat on her knees for a long time because if there's anyone you want to be getting out, it's Perry.

  3. Aus 64-3 (Cross 5-1-14-1)published at 20 overs

Cross is quickly through her fifth over, but this time finds umpire Steve O'Shaughnessy unmoved despite another decent lbw appeal against Blackwell, who then moves into double figures with a single to cover. Her 10 runs have come from 31 balls.

    Aus 63-3

Dropped! Grundy dives to her left but can't take a sharp return catch from Perry despite getting both hands to it. A hard lesson for the Warwickshire slow left-armer.

  5. Aus 63-3published at 18.2 overs

Perry takes the attack to Grundy, unleashing a classical cover drive before punching firmly past the bowler - four runs is the result on both occasions.

  6. Aus 55-3 (Perry 13*, Blackwell 9*)published at 18 overs

As Dan Norcross points out on TMS, fans of tinned soup may be pleased to see it's Cross and Blackwell in opposition here. Australia were most certainly in the soup at 35-3, but the increasingly large crowd are watching a good recovery here as the New South Wales pair add a single apiece.

If they can get past 200 it'll be competitive, but they'll hope to add a few more than that.

  8. Aus 53-3published at 17 overs

Grundy has an unusual quirk in her run-up - spreading her arms wide, as though she's about to conduct at  as she runs in to bowl - and there are two increasingly loud shouts for lbw as Blackwell prods forward, although the second one looked to have hit outside the line of off stump. Blackwell adds a single off the last ball.

  10. Aus 52-3 (Cross 3-1-11-1)published at 16 overs

England surround Blackwell with keeper Sarah Taylor standing up to the stumps, accompanied by a slip and a silly point. Lancashire's Cross is giving it everything, but Perry brings Australia past 50 with another powerful straight drive just inches past the stumps.

Rebecca Grundy's been around for a little while now. I have watched her a lot playing county cricket and she's got a lot of promise. She has got a nice flight on the all, she's got a good pace. She could feature in all formats. The Test will be the ideal environment for her - she will get a bit of turn, she will get some time to build her game plan.

  13. Aus 46-3 (Perry 8*, Blackwell 6*)published at 15 overs

England turn to spin for the first time - after seven overs of Brunt (2-23), it's left-arm spinner Rebecca Grundy into the attack. She's very much the front-line spinner of this seam-dominated England attack, though we may see some off-spin from Heather Knight later on. It's tidy from Grundy early on, just a Blackwell single from it.

It's been an exceptional start for England. Charlotte Edwards will be absolutely rapt - firstly with the selection and also with the performance with the ball.

  15. Aus 45-3published at 14 overs

Kate Cross to continue, with Amy Jones helmeted once more but now standing at silly point rather than short leg. But the fast Taunton outfield does its work again as a delicate nudge through square leg from Blackwell scoots away for four.

The healthy crowd in the Andy Caddick and Colin Atkinson Pavilions are currently basked in glorious sun and thoroughly enjoying themselves. There has been plenty for the English fans to cheer about and they’re attempting to make their voices heard over the ongoing construction work.

  17. Aus 40-3 (Perry 8*, Blackwell 0*)published at 13 overs

Brunt fires in a bouncer which soars high over Perry's head and is rightly called as a wide. Perry bides her time before executing a smart late cut for four.

  19. Aus 35-3 (Cross 1-1-0-1)published at 12 overs

Alex Blackwell, who's been playing in English county cricket with Berkshire this summer, is the new batter. There's a brief delay while a helmet is summoned for Amy Jones to crouch in at short leg for the last ball of Cross's over. Jones, normally a wicketkeeper, is playing as a batter today - and suffers the fate of many a junior batsman in cricket, being stuck in at bat-pad. Cross completes a wicket maiden.

Kate Cross has got to be one of the number one players. She kicked onto the scene at the last Ashes. Her and Rebecca Grundy are two of the players who will make this series shine for England.
