Last blogged 03/07/2007 : the weather was mentioned and therefore the floods down south in England, a frightening development, unfortunately a second time round. Here in Tiree we have continued fine weather, Tonight it looks as if rain is on the way. As we are quite a kind people here, we seek more sunshine for he visitors, and that the rain will only prevail briefly.
Culture, well it has had different appoaches as to its worth over the years. It has been related that Goering of World War 11 infamy considered reaching for his gun at the mention of culture.
From the 8th to the 13thof this month I particaped in " Feis Thiriodh,"a festival of music, song and dance, this was my first appearance though it is a yearly event.
The "Feis" week" was duly dedicated with a church service on the Sunday. And on the Monday almost a week followed of tutoring in the various art forms plus lectures a concert and finally a dance.
My part in it all was to attend classes consisting first of pipe chanter playing and then learning the skills of mouth organ playing. Who hasn't heard of Donald Black the well known and expert player of the humble moothie and my tutor.
I as a very mature student enjoyed being in the company of the young, and my insight is one of future hope that the west coast Islands are on an upward trend as regards the traditional resources. I can even now see in Tiree, a revival of musical flair.

Let me attest that I have now heard of Donald Black. I have also heard of the humble pud, but never before of the humble moothie. If someone (say, Angus or Murdo John) bellows, does it mean he must be playing the pipe organ? Just curious, not acutely, no - not quite. Live and learn, I say, but it's getting to the point where I may have to do some selective shedding.

We have a selective shed here at Rolling Acres, if that's any help...
