Dare We Have Hope???

What is needed, in my opinion, is a change of the mindset of everybody in all the world. Where it should be normal for recycling, saving energy, like switching off lights in office blocks when there is nobody there. Maybe there should be laws to make people be aware of their responsibilities, regarding Climate Change aspects. I don't know, how, what or where to implement these laws, I'm not an MP/MSP/MEP, and it should be up to these people to enforce any laws that would help, slow down/reverse Climate Change. If we can teach the young about ways to do their bit for the Earth, and show them how to help/stop the Greenhouse effect, then maybe, just maybe we will save this planet for our grandchildren.

Island Wanderer, good to have you back on the blog! Tws from Lewis, I wish you were an Mp/Mep/Msp, you write more sense than them that are!

In Fetlar School we energy save with nearly everything: doors are kept shut, heating is on low, the photocopier is turned off until its needed, excess lights are turned off as we try to work by daylight (when there is any). All the computers are off if they are not in use. We re-use anything that is possible. Its only a small contribution but it might help. Have to agree with island wanderer about the weather. We've had force 9 winds that have risen and then gone back down to a gentle breeze within 6 hours this year. Very unusual. All its done is rain, although there is a light dusting of snow outside now.

Everybody wants to be great at recycling etc. etc. so local authorities reduce normal waste collections and up the recycling collections (which incidentally has been successful re recycling uptake) but everybody complains about it. Those who want in at the next election will say they will reinstate weekly ordinary waste collections (thus automatically reducing recycling levels), but I'd put money on it they'll be lying because the government will have targets to meet and local authorities will have no choice in continuing. You just can't win. Rant over, I work for the local authority and I get earache about it almost daily.

Greg from Glasgow: The blog: What A Change!!!: Well yes, but one has got to start somewhere, can't repeat enough I'd say.

Caraid from glasgow, From What A Change Blog. But is this purely a matter concerned with the ozone layer or more to the the nearer atmosphere. Are we entering a new stage in the planet's life, or is it as you say that our behaviour is iconsequential as regards pollution. I believe we must reduce it world wide as this could be the beginning of the beginning.

Blog : Dare We Have Hope Tws from Isle of Lewis, Change of mindset seems to be part answer; deteriation might be what brings it on. All other aspects you mention would, in the near future , help : recycling etc. Rather than with laws, maybe better voluntary, possibly. Saving the planet, I believe, is what its about. We older ones, our main interest is dedicated to the young.

Blog: Dare We Have Hope??? Muness from Felter, Your energy saving efforts are wonderful, pity the world as a whole didn't feel the requirement to observe. Would there possibly be an improvement weatherwise, do you think.

Blog: Dare We Have hope??? Buzz From Glasgow, I wonder myself if recycling is indeed, possibly, that much of an advantage. It does seem rather expensive to uphold on a regular bases. Would it not be possible to gain the material at the tips from a general waste. Do I make any sense , Buzz.

Dare we have hope? What else have we got since that daft Pandora looked in the box?
Hyper-Borean from The salty attic
Does anyone make any sense? There is certainly an argument for general waste being sorted elsewhere if that's what you mean? Only yesterday we lost the life of a young recycling bin man who slipped on ice and fell under the lorry. With more bin collections (normal & recycling) than ever we are as a council seeing far more incidents although thankfully not usually this tragic.

ISLAND WANDERER - heading over your way soon (to anyone reading this it is secret and if you know who I am don't mention it to anyone, it's a surprise for someone) and wondering where one can get a decent drink. I'm regularly told by strangers on the ferry, who seem to assume I'm from Coll, that your watering holes are not up to the standard of the Coll Hotel but you may care to differ?
