The Weather, Climate Change and a Marine Park.

We are now into the second week of the new year, and I'm sure, like me that some of you are wondering where does the time go!!! With the unclement weather we've been having lately. surely there would be nothing wrong with looking forward a bit in speculation of the summer season as at one time it was expected to make up for a bad winter, but it looks as if this is not the case these days. I had a conversation with a friend recently who also remembered the years of the past; in this case , the fifties. He was, like me, quite adamant that the weather was definately more normal in those days- frost and snow at the expected time; less rain and good days in between.

Have any of you, my fellow bloggers, seen brilliant sunshine when the ground was covered in snow? I'm certainlynot tongue in cheek about it- but I'm just wondering? There are more instances that I could bring to the surface but may these snippets suffice meantime.

Now to refer to ANNE from MULL, who seems a little fed up with references to Climate Change but is instead looking forward to a Marine Park(National) proposed for our part of the world. A good idea I'd say!!! Although it seems a huge area to keep under observation.

In closing as regards Climate Change, have the scientists made some sort of a mistake as regards their predictions, and are we being misled by their belief in science to come up with the answers to the problem. As far as I am concerned, I must reconsider the situation concerning who I am to believe; those for or against.

It is possible that you will never have hard evidence to categorically prove climate change due to mans influence, therefore we might expect to read of your indecision for some time to come. Personally it seems more constructive to assume it does exist - and rather than debate whether it exists or not it seems smarter to get on with reducing waist, developing better technologies and perhaps even developing a planning policy which is a bit more about long term sustainability. Regarding the Marine Park (National). You think it is a good idea. I am unsure what form it will actually take and what it will mean in reality. Unlike the issue of climate change you seem to be very very clear that it will be a good thing. I am interested to know what you expect of the National Park and what impact it will have on Tiree?

Anne from Mull

Anne from Mull, Climate Change, I feel that it is quite possible that man has a big part to play in it, but it is those who won't or can't make up their minds, and have all the resources at hand to make clear that Climate Change is not a one sided problem; and far from it. Yes, I belive that a sustained and concerted effort is required but we are faced with many problems towards success, with so many against the efforts being tried. The Marine Park, I feel it is a good idea. I'm sure that there are many others world wide; why not our part.Is there not a marine centre near Oban? Like every other project there will be those for and against. Tiree is a beautiful island but the seas around it suffer from neglect and abuse. Could the seas not be rejuvinated to being a place of unending interest and receration for whover wants to enjoy. This I'm sure would be the answer to mans greed over many years, plus pollution and over fishing and a definate couldnt care less attitude. How would this affect Tiree? With the Marine Farm being given a cosiderate approach and congenial towards all concerned,I don't see why success should not prevail and be an unending source of pleasure and entertainment for the people of the present age and into the future of a non polluted world.Maybe! I hope you get this comment Anne.
