Life on the croft from the cradle,......blog.

Over three score years ago, Iwas born into acrofting community, the only child of a crofting family. I have spent practically my entire life involved in working on the land.

I remember as a child how Isuddenly became aware of my surroundings, asI hadn't till then. One day, probably in the Spring, standing at the door, on a cold dry day, I observed the aspect before me as never before. The rocks nearby seemed to leap at me as I had never experienced till then, they looked huge, ragged and rugged and so very grey, I expected them to move at any moment, asI wondered if they were indeed somewhat alive.

I noticed even with childish eyes that rocks were an integral part of the land scape as a whole even, of the daily life of my people,-buildings, dykes etc.

I have been fascinated with this aspect of my world ever since!
