Iry Tina has managed to forge a successful career as an artist in Burundi against the odds. As she tells TIA, Burundi is a very conservative country and it's very difficult for women to be musicians because of public disapproval. But things are changing, she says, and thanks to her success representing Burundi at various international beauty pageants, she's had a platform on which to speak out, and to demonstrate that she is a good person and a successful businesswoman who also does a lot of work for charity.

Iry Tina spent time in Uganda working on her music, which meant learning to speak Luganda as well as English. She now sings in both languages as well as Kirundi and French.
