Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha
Soprano from South Africa - 27 years old
I come from the Limpopo province and started singing at school and church at an early age. I completed my Postgraduate Diploma at the University of Cape Town, studying with Virginia Davids, and took a BTech in Vocal Art (Performance) with Kiewiet Pali at Tshwane University of Technology. While there, I sang Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) and the soprano solo in Mozart’s Coronation Mass. I was a Young Artist with Cape Town Opera for two years, singing First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Mother of Mandela (Mandela Trilogy) and Serena (Porgy and Bess).
In London, I joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in the 2019/20 Season, performing Guest and Lace Seller (Death in Venice), title role Susanna and Soprano in Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915.
My competition successes include the Audience Prize and two special prizes in the 2019 Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, winner of the UNISA Competition, First Prize in the Phillip H Moore Music Competition, and First Prize and Best South African Song (final 2017, semi-final 2018) in the ATKV Singing Competition. I was awarded Second prize in the Schock Philips Foundation competition at UCT (2018).
In 2019 I sang soprano solo in Verdi‘s Requiem with Oude Libertas choir in Stellenbosch and was nominated Best Singer in the opera category for Woordfees 2019. I was awarded Second Prize in Muzicanto in Cape Town, an award from the Schock Philips Foundation at UCT. In autumn 2021 I will join the ensemble of Bern Staatsoper for two years.
In my spare time, I enjoy cycling and playing tennis.

Rwy’n hanu o dalaith Limpopo a dechreuais ganu yn yr ysgol a’r eglwys yn ifanc iawn. Cwblheais fy Niploma Ôl-radd ym Mhrifysgol Cape Town, dan ofal Virginia Davids, a gwnes BTech mewn Celf Leisiol (Perfformio) gyda Kiewiet Pali ym Mhrifysgol Dechnoleg Tshwane. Tra roeddwn yno, canais Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) a’r unawd soprano yn Offeren y Coroni Mozart. Bûm yn Artist Ifanc gyda chwmni Opera Cape Town am ddwy flynedd, gan ganu’r Foneddiges Gyntaf (Die Zauberflöte), Mam Mandela (Mandela Trilogy) a Serena (Porgy and Bess).
Yn Llundain, ymunais â Rhaglen Artistiaid Ifanc Jette Parker yn Nhymor 2019/20, gan berfformio fel Gwestai a Gwerthwraig Les (Death in Venice), rôl deitl Susanna a Soprano yn Barber’s Knoxville: Summer 1959.
Llwyddais mewn cystadlaethau gan gynnwys Gwobr y Gynulleidfa a dwy wobr arbennig yng Nghystadleuaeth Hans Gabor Belvedere 2019, enillydd Cystadleuaeth UNISA, Gwobr Gyntaf yng Nghystadleuaeth Gerddoriaeth Phillip H Moore, a Gwobr Gyntaf a’r Gân Orau o Dde Affrica (rownd derfynol 2017, rownd gynderfynol 2018) yng Nghystadleuaeth Ganu ATKV. Enillais yr Ail Wobr yng nghystadleuaeth Sefydliad Schock Philips yn UCT (2018).
Yn 2019 canais unawd soprano yn Requiem Verdi gyda chôr Oude Libertas yn Stellenbosch ac enwebwyd fi yn Gantores Orau yng nghategori opera yn Woordfees 2019. Enillais Ail Wobr yn Muzicanto yn Cape Town, a gwobr gan Sefydliad Schock Philips yn UCT. Yn hydref 2021 byddaf yn ymuno ag ensemble Bern Staatsoper am ddwy flynedd.
Yn fy amser hamdden, rwy’n mwynhau reidio beic a chwarae tennis.
