Reinventing roofing materials as works of art
Theaster Gates is the son of a roofer. He grew up helping his father fix the leaking roofs of Chicago. He鈥檚 now turning those skills to art, moulding tar and felt and other roofing materials to create paintings and sculptures that celebrate not only his dad but all the unsung black hands that built the USA.
