Why Theaster Gates is giving roofing material a new lease of life
We head to Hong Kong, where Chicago based American artist Theaster Gates is installing his latest work in a show called Tarry Skies and Palms For Now, at the White Cube Gallery there. Presenter Tim Marlow takes a path through Theaster Gates鈥� creative thinking. As the son of a roofer he spent many hours, with his father, fixing leaking Chicago rooftops with tar and felt. Now he is using those same materials to create paintings and sculptures that celebrate not only his dad but all the unsung black hands that built the USA.
