Damsels in distress

In the boggy part of Dorset's heath are some gruesome goings-on. It's not just insects killing insects out here, Chris Packham finds some plants that have got in on the act. This is a sundew - one of the most common and conspicuous insect-eating plants. You can spot them easily because of their reddish leaves covered in tiny hairs with sticky sundew on the end. Any insect that lands on that sticky fluid attaches itself to it and the leaf wraps around it and begins the digestive process. A pair of damselflies have crashed into the leaves which are already wrapping around them. Their wings are already so damaged that they would not survive even if Chris rescued them. This is nature in the raw.
