Inshore dolphins
The Moray Firth is home to one of Britain's top ten wildlife sights. Chanonry Point near Inverness is the best place to get close to a creature nornally associated with warm tropical waters - the bottlenose dolphin. They are here regularly, so seeing one is just a matter of time. Low tide is the best time, as that's when the dolphins feed. Charlie Philips of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society identifies dolphin 433 for Chris Packham. Chanonry Point is part of an estuary with very deep water and a tremendous tidal flow which brings food right to the dolphins. Charlie and Chris watch a dolphin trying to swallow a large sea trout - it takes some manoeuvring to get it right. This is the best place for dolphin watching in Europe.
