What lengths will Dan go to to fuel his addiction? Lenny's MS symptoms flare up while on a day out with Cal. Will Gabriel regret offering to help Leyla with her Xmas shopping?
It's early on Saturday morning and Dan is walking to the health centre. However he's not there to work, he's still betting on online gambling websites and using the surgery credit card to fund it! When he's interrupted by both Molly and Michael in quick succession he has to leave. In the deli Dan is embarrassed when his card is refused buying scratch cards but he's delighted to win 100 pounds on one of the cards - perhaps things are looking up. Later Malcolm asks Dan to bank the Christmas Club money and Dan is happy to help, but when he pops into the surgery to collect his keys, he faces an angry Michael. The computers have a virus. Dan plays the innocent victim and denies he's been on any dodgy websites, quickly deleting the online history from his PC. Then the bank calls to ask about the company account - they're over their overdraft. Dan deflects them but his guilt is increased when a contrite Michael apologises for his anger earlier. When Dan opens a red credit card bill for 3000 pounds, he cuts up the Health Centre credit card in a fit of remorse. Starting to get desperate he decides to head to the arcade and gamble his scratch card winnings but he loses it all. On his way back to Malcolm and Liz's Dan's phone call with the credit card company is overheard by a furious Gabriel. But before he can properly confront Dan, they're interrupted by Liz. Later Malcolm asks Dan to place a bet on a horse for him. Dan tries to say no but Malcom is insistent. Dan is determined not to bet, but when he bumps into proud granddad Lenny, he gets given a sure-fire tip and the temptation is too much, especially when he remembers he still has the Christmas Club money. When the horse he backs loses, Dan is devastated, an eagle eyed Gabriel guesses what he has done and threatens Dan. Dan heads off to pawn his watch and bike. When he only manages to scrape together 600 pounds, Dan decides to go to the casino in town to try and make more money. He heads to Amber Cabs and an observant Lenny spots an opportunity. He convinces Dan to play cards with him and cheats to ensure Dan loses. Then he offers Dan a 5k loan, no questions asked. A delighted Dan takes the money and meets Gabriel, gloating that he got an extension on his overdraft. A grim Gabriel is appeased for now, but Dan has no idea what he's got himself into.
Lenny is nervous is taking Callum out to Edinburgh Zoo today. Frances realises how important today is for Lenny and when Lenny has a dizzy spell Frances suggests he goes to the Surgery. However Lenny is determined to keep his plans for the day with Callum, he asks Frances to come with them and is annoyed when she chooses to go to work instead. Lenny tracks Michael down at the surgery. He demands a steroid shot to help with his MS flare up so that he's fit to take Callum to the zoo. Michael tries to talk him into a different self-medicating treatment but Lenny just wants his shot. A curious Molly witnesses Lenny leaving the Health Centre. At Amber Cabs Frances tries to give Lenny some advice on how to handle Scarlett but Lenny is still annoyed with her. As Frances leaves DI Donald appears and puts pressure on her, she's not given him anything yet - what's going on? Lenny's day with Callum is a huge success, but back on Montego Street Lenny's MS flares up again and he can't stop Callum from stepping into the road. Luckily Frances grabs him, but she knows something isn't right. Frances earns brownie points from Lenny by not pushing him to tell her what's wrong and at Scarlett's she steps in with an excuse to explain why Lenny was seen at the surgery. Lenny decides that Frances does have his best interests at heart. He tells her the truth about his MS and asks her to come on holiday with him. A delighted Frrances meets DI Donald to tell him the good news. But DI Donald bursts her bubble, Frances won't be going anywhere as he has plans to take down Murdoch in the next few weeks - with or without her.
At the Brodie's Leyla is feeling neglected. Scrooge Michael is having to catch up on surgery paperwork and is also feeling ill with man flu which means he has no time for any Christmas spirit. When Gabriel pops by Leyla is pleased when he offers to run Conor and Adeeb to football practice and Nicole into town leaving her time to shop online. Later a worried Gabriel has to hide his concern about Dan. Leyla is impressed with his suggestions for presents and in the spirit of friendship invites him for Christmas with the family. When Gabriel realises Michael is neglecting Leyla because of the Surgery and the hard work he's putting into it, his guilt increases. Later Michael arrives back home with a Christmas tree. He knows he's been grumpy recently but he does want them to have a good family Christmas, and if Leyla is happy for Gabriel to come to Christmas dinner he can tolerate Zinnie. It will be a proper family Christmas.
