What happened to these seven acts that were big in 2007?

Kate Nash joined on Tuesday evening, ten years on from the release of her hit debut album Made of Bricks.

It got us thinking about what the music stars of 2007 are up to these days. We take a look at the fortunes of seven acts that were radio regulars a decade ago...

Kate Nash takes us back to the beginning with 'Foundations'

Kate Nash performs 'Foundations' from her debut album 'Made Of Bricks'.

She uploaded demos to Myspace in early 2006 and was sitting comfortably at No.2 in the charts by June the following year with her hit, . Debut album, Made of Bricks, had similar success, bagging her a No.1 and 50 weeks on the UK charts. In short: 2007 was, indisputably, the year of Kate Nash.

Kate followed up Made of Bricks with 2010’s 'My Best Friend Is You' and 2013’s self-released 'Girl Talk', but has been quiet since. However, 2017 might mark the long-awaited comeback we’ve been hoping for.

A new EP, named Agenda, , a tour date announcement and a crowdfunding campaign aimed at raising the money for a new independently-made album (backed by 2,642 people and 222% funded so far). Ten years on, it looks like we’re about to be blessed with a whole lot of Kate Nash.

Mika

Dominating the charts for an impressive 49 weeks, of which five of those were spent at No.1, Mika’s is surely up there with the catchiest songs of all the time.

In an explosion of colour, curls and memorable tunes, our obsession with Mika saw him awarded the BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Artist in 2008 and perform at Glasto and V Festival. Nowadays, you can find him commandeering a swivel chair on the French equivalent of The Voice and celebrating all things Harry Nilsson for us on Radio 2.

The Hoosiers

Ten years later and we’re still worried about Ray, all thanks to The Hoosiers. The debut single from the three-piece band spent eight consecutive weeks in the UK Top 10 and their debut album, The Trick To Life, reached No.1.

Followed by the equally popular and Goodbye Mr A, The Hoosiers may not have been a hit with the critics (they won NME’s Worst Band Award in 2008) but there’s no denying their ability to churn out catchy upbeat hits.

Now consisting of two members, Alan Sharland and Irwin Sparkes, the band most recently teased some new music in 2017 through their : “We also have some big plans for later in this year... we're not quite ready to let you know yet, but if you do some simple base-10 maths, you may be able to figure out what it is.” Watch this space…

Leona Lewis

Who can forget Leona Lewis and Bleeding Love? Not us, that’s for sure. The ballad, penned by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder (the man responsible for Adele’s ‘Rumour Has It’ and ), sat on the No.1 spot for 7 weeks and featured on the charts for a whopping 38 weeks.

Leona Lewis

She hit No.1 again with her cover of Snow Patrol’s in 2008 and No.3 with the release of her 2015 album, ‘I Am'. Also, in 2015, Leona joined our festival in a day at Hyde Park.

While we haven't heard any new music from Leona, it seems that the singer may have cracked America after replacing Nicole Scherzinger as Grizabella in the Broadway revival of Cats. And, on top of all that, . Business, not quite as usual, for Leona Lewis.

Kaiser Chiefs

While rocky hits and put Kaiser Chiefs on our radar, it was the release of Ruby, in February 2007, that saw the Brit band soar to stratospheric heights. (We’ve never been able to utter the name since without hearing Ricky Wilson’s voice.)

While lead singer, Ricky, has gone on to have TV success – taking a seat on The Voice panel alongside the likes of Tom Jones, Boy George, Rita Ora, Paloma Faith and willi.i.am from 2013 to 2016 – the band had been relatively quiet on the new music front up until late last year with the release of their album, Stay Together, which reached No.4 in the UK album charts. The band also made an appearance at the .

Scouting For Girls

Scouting For Girls emerged in 2007 with a string of radio friendly hits, , and , which all reached the Top 20 in the UK.

Their self-titled debut album also came out ten years ago, eventually reaching No.1 in early 2008 and going on to sell over a million copies.

The three-piece became Radio 2 favourites, with notable performances for Chris Evans while he presented his Drivetime show in a hot tub in 2008, and his Breakfast Show from a field in Cornwall two years later.

The band have gone on to release another three studio albums and a Greatest Hits, and celebrated their ten year anniversary on Valentine's Day with a special London show where they played their debut LP in full. Listen out for new music, planned for later in the year

2007 saw The Kooks cement their growing reputation with a performance at Glastonbury and a Best British Single nomination for at that year’s Brits.

The Brighton-born pop rock band dominated the charts the previous year with debut album Inside In/Inside Out and hits such as and .

They’ve been quiet since 2014’s album Listen, but if your ears are pining for the four piece, we have good news. You can – from Southend-on-Sea to Switzerland – until December 2017. In the meantime, why not listen to their You won't want to miss it.
