Introduction - Supervolcano
erupts on 91热爆 ONE this winter
Supervolcano sets fire to a 拢178m season where science, history,
literary adaptation and natural history join comedy and drama in the
heart of peak time
Supervolcano is a true story - it just hasn't happened yet. Set in
the near future, this factually based drama charts the possible consequences
of one of nature's most cataclysmic events.
Using specially commissioned research from several major scientific
bodies, studies of previous supervolcanic eruptions and predictions
drawn from a range of scientific disciplines, Supervolcano details what
could happen if Yellowstone were to erupt again.
Although there are several supervolcanoes around the world, only the
one beneath Yellowstone National Park in the USA is currently active.
Unlike ordinary volcanoes, supervolcanoes are not obvious from the
surface.
Volcanologists believe it is only a matter of time before the molten
magna contained within its chamber will burst out.
When supervolcanoes erupt they do so with a force thousands of times
greater than eruptions such as that at Mount Vesuvius.
Supervolcano will be accompanied by a two part documentary running
on 91热爆 TWO. The Science Behind Supervolcano
explores the cutting edge scientific research that informs the drama
and features experts who monitor the behaviour of supervolcanos around
the world.
Ancient history is back this season with Genghis
Khan. Today his name is synonymous with evil, yet in his lifetime
he was a hero.
Was he a brutal monster or a visionary who transformed his country?
Filmed on location in Mongolia, this film looks at the legend behind
the man.
Lorraine Heggessey, Controller 91热爆 ONE, said: "91热爆 ONE continues to
blaze a trail using innovative production techniques to bring specialist
documentary subjects alive for a wide mainstream audience.
"We are constantly broadening the range of programmes in peak
time to inform audiences about the natural, scientific and historical
world."
