The
nation votes for Llanelly House
Restoration
results from ninth programme revealed
Speaking
from the Tower of London, Griff Rhys Jones last night (Tuesday)
revealed that the nation had chosen Llanelly House in Llanelli to
be the ninth building to go through to the final of the 91热爆 TWO
series Restoration - winning over 39% of the votes from viewers.
Last
Friday (5 September) the ninth programme of the ten-part series
featured three Welsh buildings.
Griff
called on viewers to choose between Llanelly House and two other
buildings - Vaynol Old Hall in Gwynedd and Amlwch Port and Parys
Mountain in Anglesey.
Information
on all three buildings is available through the website on .
Llanelly
House was at the cutting edge of architectural design when it was
built in 1714 and an impressive status symbol of power and wealth
for the tiny fishing town.
Commissioned
by the town's leading family - the Stepneys - this house has been
sadly neglected and is now in a dilapidated condition with its glories
boarded up.
Last night's result means Llanelly House becomes one of ten buildings
to be featured in the live final at the Tower of London on Sunday
(14 September) at 9.00 pm on 91热爆 TWO.
Here
a nationwide vote will decide which building should be given a new
lease of life with money raised throughout the course of the series.
Jennifer
Stewart, Heritage Lottery Fund Manager for Wales, said: "The
restoration of Llanelly House, one of the finest early Georgian
townhouses, will be an exciting project - not only to restore the
building but to find it a long-term use which has meaning for the
area.
"It
encapsulates one of the Heritage Lottery Fund's main aims which
is to open up our heritage for everyone to enjoy.
"We've
pledged 拢3 million to The Restoration Fund, it's now up to
the public to decide which building wins the final."
Last
night three more buildings were featured for viewers to choose between,
all from the South East of England - Wiltons Music Hall in East
London; Broomfield House in Enfield and Darnley Mausoleum in Cobham,
Kent.
The
results from this programme - and the complete list of ten buildings
to go through to the Restoration Final - will be announced on Thursday
(11 September).
Restoration
is produced by Endemol UK Productions for 91热爆 Scotland transmitting
on 91热爆 TWO.
