The
nation votes for Victoria Baths
First
Restoration results revealed
Speaking
from the Tower of London, Griff Rhys Jones revealed on Tuesday night
(12 August) that the nation had chosen Victoria Baths in Manchester
to be the first building to go through to the final of the 91Èȱ¬ TWO
series Restoration.
Last
Friday (8 August), in the first episode of the ten-part series,
Griff called on viewers to choose between Victoria Baths and two
other buildings - Bank Hall in Bretherton and Brackenhill Tower
in Carlisle.
Information
on all three buildings is available through the website - .
Victoria
Baths (opened in 1906) are imposing Art Nouveau municipal swimming
and Turkish baths that made lavish use of stained glass, Minton
tiles, mosaics and wrought iron.
In
1993 the baths were closed and rain now seeps into the building
and ferns have taken root.
The
result means that Victoria Baths will now become one of ten buildings
to be featured in the live final at the Tower of London in mid-September.
Here
a nationwide vote will decide which building should be given a new
lease of life with money raised throughout the course of the series.
On
Tuesday (12 August) three more buildings were featured for viewers
to choose between – Grey Friars Tower in Kings Lynn; Coalhouse
Forte near East Tilbury; and Moulton Windmill in Moulton.
Friday’s
episode of Restoration (15 August) will reveal which of these will
become the second building to go through to the final.
