Bottled Oxygen
Re-Nottingham Trent University graduate Lisa Clarks' "discovery" that
bottled oxygen being a future trend for us to carry around for a "quick
fix". I don't think I wish to walk around town in ten years time looking
like a deep-sea diver, although I suspect she is thinking of a small
pocket-sized container with a mouthpiece, similar I suppose to the
one 007 used in one of the Bond Movies. .....Well, we all laughed
at an invention of a small paper brolly that was pushed into a pina
collada cocktail and look at that invention now !! millions of them
are made and sold throughout the world, and the inventor laughs all
the way to his bank. Just why can't I think of something simple like
that. I could use a million quid right now. So I say good luck to
you Lisa. Just keep the price right, and don't forget the small pump
and adapter for the 13a mains. I might add to this posting that Tokio
had oxygen machines on the streets way back in the mid-50's, and Oh.boy
you certainly needed a breath of fresh air on those city streets.

Dog Waste
It is the school holidays and so there are lots of children about.
It is warm if wet. So why are the dog waste bins not emptied more
regularly. On Inham Road Park the smell and overspill is disgusting.
If we can tidy up after our dogs then surey the Council can use our
rates to empty them more regularly this weather.

Car accidents
According to the transport 2000 web site "each of us has a 1 in 17
chance of being killed or seriously injured in a road crash." Do you
know 17 people? If you do the chances are one of them will be killed
or seriously injured in a road crash. Speed cameras have reduced the
accident rate by half to me there is no argument against them. Regarding
smoking, I am ashamed to be a member of The university of Nottingham
Alumni after they accepted all that money from BAT. I have let them
know this. Sure we should also oppose cigarrette promotion but that
is a seperate issue.

helicopters!! over nottingham
yesterday i noticed a few helicopters flying over nottingham and out
over carlton way. to be expected of course for the queens visit naturally
security should be tightened up on such a visit (maybe they should
think closer to home then no egg incident!) but more importantly i
have noticed the helicopters on nights previous and also two helicopters
flying over and around the carlton area tonight? i cant belive for
one minute that it is the police ? if it is then this is not mearly
a routine scout round for a police helicopter?? we have a "real" problem
in this town people.

Broadmarsh 'Race Track'
Many of us have read recently about the roads around the Broadmarsh
centre which are being used as a race track during evenings at the
weekend. Well on 2 occassions now the most recent only on Sunday 21/07
I had the pleasure of driving pass the Broadmarsh at around 10pm.
Well I could not believe my eyes when I got to the traffic lights
close to Big City Tyers. There were around 100 or more youngsters
lined up at the side of the road waiting to see these selfish maniacs
racing around the block. The guy next to me pulled away so quickly
he must have been doing close to 60mph when approaching the next bend
a suicidal speed with no regard for anyone else on the road. So where
are the police to stop this reckless act from taking place? It couldn't
have been more obvious what was taking place all it lacked was a chequered
flag. Some day very soon an innocent motorist or pedestrian will be
killed for sure so come on for goodness sake sort these idiots out
NOW!!!

This cannot be right:
This cannot be right: From what I have heard on the news today, is
that, it is being considered that illegal immigrants will have their
own private medical facilities, these services will be provided by
companies like BUPA. The reasons for this are that it will take the
extra work off the local GP鈥檚 and so they can be dealt with quickly.
Let鈥檚 not forget 鈥渋llegal immigrants鈥 enter this country illegally,
in other countries if not shot in the attempt to enter the country
these people would be forcefully returned over the boarder. Were else
in the world would you as an 鈥渋llegal immigrant鈥 be housed, fed, clothed,
taken to places of interest (at a cost of over 拢1M so far) and now
free private health care. Now who can blame the 鈥渋llegal immigrants鈥?
It鈥檚 us the stupid British public that encourage this kind of action,
remember next time you place your 鈥榅鈥 on ballot paper what you are
voting for. Is it to control the rise in crime? Is it to provide good
schools? Is it to provide good medical facilities? Is it to generally
increase the well being of you, your family, and the British public?
Or is it to encourage illegal immigrants with free housing, free food,
free clothing free entertainment and free private health care? Time
for granny to go to France and re-enter the country as an illegal
immigrant, she would then be able to enjoy the life (which no doubt
she cannot afford) of the illegal immigrant and receive first class
quick medical treatment, which most of us have to wait, weeks, months
and even years for

Homosexuality within the Church
In reply to b.clyde Nottingham.UK. We could continue with this suject
for ever. But has I stated in my previous message the Bible is clear
on the subject of homosexuality. The Bible is also clear on a man

Violent crime raises in Nottinghamshire: -91热爆 Nottingham
In reply to Carole Jameson I beleive you have totally missed the point.
A motorist does not leave his/her house with the intent to commit
a crime, and although I accept as I said in my previous posting that
speeding is an offence, the fact some one is speeding does not mean
they intend to hurt of kill some one and in fact the fast majority
of the time if not all the time no one is injured. However the mugger,
robber or rapist and the like has the intent to carry out their crimal
actions. I do not think you read my previous posting correctly I never
mentioned going for "real" crimals instead of motorists, I can only
assume taking your logic? to its illogical end is.. You would prefer
some one being caught speeding, than some breaking into you home being
caught, or a rapist being caught when attacking you or your daughter,
or your mother or grandmother being battered by a thug being caught.
But as you say you have no real preference, how very strange. (2002/07/21)

asylum seekers :(
Hello people, I'm an X broxtowe man callin you from Toronto, Canada.
i hda to leave there as it was getting crazy, e.g No jobs, no money,
govenment stinks, brocken promises & most of all, these people who
come from differnt parts of the world (Not mentioning any) looking
for refuge they get more bloody money than we do (On Soctial). I
don't want to be crude about it but the more times your legs are
open the more money you'll get paid. And the govenmen won't do a
thing about it and that's why we have the so called "Bradford riot's"
as you have patriotic English V's asylum seekers. I'm not saying
that All people coming in from those countries are bad some of them
actually get some where (Corner stores) but the stats say the 94%
of asylum seeker will stay on there untill they die and guess who's
paying there way?? "YOU" Why do you think i moved over here it's
not the best but it's better than over there. I love England but
as the years go by the more of a Dustbin it's gonna be. Good luck

Your edit has taken me quite a while to fathom just what message
you have attempted to put over. Finally, I have decided, from your
remarks, that you found yourself unable to 'cut the mustard' in this
enviable country we call the UK. You stated, quote;"it was getting
crazy" unquote. No jobs ?-- just look through the N.E.P. there are
over 600 vacancies throughout our county of Nottinghamshire. No
money ? -- There are ample opportunities, and assistance. Just visit
any social service office in the county and you will get good advice,
but you have to make the effort before it works for you. Government
stinks ? -- Ha ! Ha ! GRAHAM ! I would vote for any so-called 'stinking
government' with a democratic mandate in preference to a dictatorship,
or police-state. Do I understand from your remarks, that you left
the UK because you could not forgive our acceptance for genuine
political refugees to enter this country ? I know there are 'easy-riders'
among them, but isn't this why the Asylems are sorting the genuine
from the illegal immigrants. The latter group will be re-patriated
to the nearest country from where they came. With your attitude
Graham, I suggest you watch your 'sixes'and behave yourself, because
I, for one, don't want to see you back here. Enjoy Totonto.

Speeding on Victoria Embankment, Nottingham
I would like to nominate the Victoria Embankment, Nottingham for
the most unenforced speed limit in the UK. Believe it or not the
speed limit is 20mph. Why then are vehicles allowed to regularly
pass along it at 40-50mph? This tree-lined oasis on the banks of
the River Trent is completely spoiled by the actions of the lunatic
fringe who use it as a rat run between West Bridgford and Queens
Road. Will it take death or serious injury to one of the many pedestrians
in the area to make the police realise that they should enforce
ALL speed limits.

Violent Crime/Speeding
Carole Jameson thinks that the police should go after speeding motorists
who are a few minutes late for work. She thinks that people who
kill other people with motor cars while breaking speed limits are
鈥渞eal鈥 criminals and they are committing a crime involving violence.
She's obviously been studying official reports, then, about the
majority of really dangerous drivers also being really dangerous
criminals (ie murderers, robbers, rapists, etc). If the police got
those off the streets, they'd be safer for all of us, in more ways
than one. At the end of the day she has no real preference between
being killed by a mugger as opposed to a speeding motorist who is
a few minutes late for work. So why does she complain? However,
whatever she thinks: 85% of pedestrians cause the accidents that
they are involved in. Most accidents happen below the speed limit.
Despite what the spin doctors try to tell you in the "One Third"
Lie (by adding in things like motorists misjudging the safe and
legal "speed" of approaching traffic when pulling out from junctions)
only between 3% - 7% of accidents are the result of excessive speed.
In fact you could well be more likely to be killed by a reversing
motorist than a speeding one!

Violent crime raises in Nottinghamshire: -91热爆 Nottingham From the
content of this article it would seem that Nottinghamshire there were
16,000 people were victims of violent crime an increase of 11%. Not
to mention burglaries up 17% and robberies up by 33%. And what does
our friendly Dept Chief Constable Sean Price have to say, "There is
reason to be optimistic" bless him. If these kinds of increases in
crime were wage increase's yes I would feel optimistic, but there
not. They are a real indication that the Police cannot make any real
sort of in roads in to preventing crime. As for detection and finally
catching any one I have the impression you have more chance of winning
the Lottery than getting caught and sentenced for any crime that's
committed. Most of the public believe the Police should spend more
time on catching and preventing crime, but it seems the powers that
be would rather go for the easy target the motorist. I accept that
motoring offences are important and there is a need to try and reduce
speeding, illegal parking, and the like. But the public would like
to see better prevention, detection and increased sentencing of the
"real" criminals. Perhaps if the criminals had a numberplate clearly
displayed on their chest and back the Police may do better. Maybe
not no doubt they would get charged with running in a walking zone
or sitting in a no sitting area: smile. Thinking about it the numberplate
bit, sounds a bit like Identity Cards, I wonder? Remember what was
said "There is reason to be optimistic"

Stolen Cars
My 17 year old Son, Ben, has been saving hard for two years so that
he would have his own car for his 17th birthday. His insurance alone
cost upwards of 拢1,400, this did not include fire & theft as it was
just out of his reach. Along with help from myself and my parents,
Ben realised his plan and was the proud owner of a Vauxhall Astra.
He passed his test first time, about 4 weeks ago and has been enjoying
his motoring. Tuesday morning, 9th July, some senseless, selfish idiot
and friends, decided that it would be great fun to steal Ben's car.
He wasn't without for long, I made sure of that, and bought him a
replacement the same day. However, Ben's cost is in excess of 拢2,000.
Do these cretins know the upset and anguish of their actions? I think
not and hope that fate has it's fortune. On a drive around I have
found near on 20 dumped or burned out cars in the Ollerton/Clipstone/Woodhouse
areas. There must be some room to tighten up on this situation and
reduce the heartache caused by the idiots that steal the property
of others. Just in case antbody sees it:- White Astra H207 HNF Thanks

This expansion comes at a cost, Notts City Council want to increase
what Nottingham City Centre has to offer? Great, but at the same time
the museums at Woollaton hall are due to be closed. In the end all
Nottingham will have to offer its residents is a bunch of cheap shops.
I think the quality of education available to children is low enough
already, without taking away what resources they have. I also think
more can be done to Nottingham City Centre than building all over
it. Give us a park and some more leisure facilities, there are enough
shops selling tack in Nottingham already.

this would keep away all of the teeny gangs we are all so sick of

wouldn`t be destroyed by brain dead thugs I actually found used syringes
on the Lawn park in Sutton in the childrens play area I think cctv

Boy Racers
When is someone (Police/Concil/Whatever) going to do something about
the boy racers that 'do the circuit' on a Friday and Saturday night.
You know where I mean...Near the broadmarsh bus station and around
the 91热爆 Round-a-bout etc. They drive like prats, and sooner or later
they are going to kill someone, if they haven't already. Have these
people nothing better to do than read max power, visit smartcar.co.uk
and generally race around like a load is inconsiderate little prats.
The sad thing is, if they hit someone it's not them that's going
to get hurt so they don't give a ****. I don't particularly want
them moved, I just want them banned. Stick and under-cover police
car on there over a month period and waintch the points rack up
before telling them they have been caught on x number of different
occassions for dangerous driving. Oh and a fine would be nice aswell.
All I've ever seen is a sting every now and again when they put
a police car with a camera on the circuit, and then all the boy
racers phone each other and cruise past at 30. I can't be the only
one that's thought about this, so a message to the police....Please
stop wasting money on speed cameras on the ring road that catch
out commuters who don't fragrantly speed, but have on occassion
been in a rush, and start catching the boy racers that flout the
law and get away with it. This circuit is no secret, people come
from across the midlands and meets are also arranged on the internet.

Regarding
BLAH's comment of June 21st regarding the car racers near the Broadmarsh
Centre. Over here in British Columbia, Canada, we have been having
a real problem with the same thing and a few people have actually
been killed or badly injured because of this stupid activity. The
Provincial Government has now passed a legislation that if anyone
is caught 'racing' on public roads, they are banned from driving
for two years or can actually have their cars confiscated. It has
been welcomed by the public with an overwhelming response and so
far so good, things have calmed down and this activity has subsided
quite drastically.

RAF NEWTON
I have lived in Bingham 30 years, and am outraged that 750 Asylum
Seekers may be dumped in the middle of the countryside. Most of them
we are told will be single males between 18 and 35, so putting them
at RAF with nothing to do will be trouble. Also we are told that Bingham
is already struggling to cope with the amount of new houses being
built, and new families moving to the area, our local schools are
having to send new Bingham children to schools outside the area, we
have to wait ages to see a doctor, and there is already a shortage
of council property. 750 new people to the area is simply out of the
question. I am in no means a racist, and am sorry for the lives they
have led in their own countries, and think they could contribute to
this country greatly, but they should be placed in cities, not small
towns.

Boy racers
There have been several comments recently in the Chad Newspaper about
the closing of a right-turn from Midworth Street to Albert Street
to stop the "Boy Racers" in Mansfield Town Centre. I believe this
will be a useless exercise, as it will only move these little boys篓
to another part of the town隆娄s inner ring road. 鈥瀐 Councillor Butler隆娄s
environmental cabinet of the County Council has been commenting that
something must be done. Yes, but the first thing they should do is
make sure there are proper speed signs in Mansfield. Most of the roads
in Mansfield are not correctly signed with the 30 mph speed limit
and If the truth be known, some of the drivers prosecuted for speeding
could have got away with being prosecuted by virtue of the inadequate
signing. 鈥瀐 For instance, travelling from Pleasley on the A617 Chesterfield
Road coming into Mansfield, it is a 40 mph speed limit. Turning right
onto Rosemary Street towards the Bus Station 隆V still 40 mph. Anyone
turning right onto Stockwell Gate towards Sutton Road into a 30 speed
limit sees no 30 speed limit signs. There is only one sign for traffic
travelling the opposite way turning left into Stockwell Gate. 鈥瀐 Any
vehicle travelling from a 30mph limit onto the Ring Road rarely sees
any 40mph signs except 40mph repeaters. 鈥瀐 I saw a young driver turn
off Albert Street towards White Hart Street and suddenly turn left
onto Queen Street under the viaduct Queen Street is supposed to be
a one-way street and he was driving against the correct flow of traffic.
I then noticed there were not any No Entry篓 signs at the junction
of Queen Street and White Hart Street. I could go on and on but if
the County Council really wanted to stop these Boy Racers then they
should start with the simplest of controls i.e. displaying the correct
road-signs. Lets have a bit more professionalism from these so-called
experts.

Ex-RAF Newton
I read, with sympathy, the feelings of local residents about the proposed
centre for asylum seekers. I can fully understand their points of
view, and certainly, I would not appreciate a centre local to my home.
However, nothing has been put forward as an alternative use for those
thousands of acres with family homes existing thereon. All I can gather
is that the site was costing (the MOD,I think) 拢1m per year to maintain,
and this could be a strain on their budget. Now I look at the situation
this way; Here we have a small ghost town, that has provided homes
to hundreds of airforce personel for many years. These families obviously
shopped in local stores for food etc. and this helped to maintain
local shopkeepers. All in all the whole area benefited from their
presence. The situation now is a large unoccupied 'village' that could
be put to good use for our own first-time buyers. People who would
possibly like to move into this site. They would most likely young
married couples, who are obliged to live with parents, or are paying
extortionate rents in apartments. The properties will have to be reconditioned
anyway, and surely the common services are still adequate : Water,Electricity,Gas,
drainage, etc. It is estimated between 200 and 300 jobs could be created
with R A F Newton undergoing a transformation with new community facilities
being built, ( a proposed 2.5mt perimeter fence would NOT be required).
The impact of such a proposal would benefit a series of issues within
a community if a developer converted the area into a good contained
estate. How about a name, NEWTON VILLAGE. Notts ? The cost of each
house could be very competetive and affordable for 'first-timers'
if we look at the asking price council sell to their tenants. I read
we need a further 300 thousand houses to meet future demands, and
here is a small existing supply to that requirement, so tell me, what
am I not seeing in this proposal ? b.clyde. 7th June 2002 Nottingham.

RAF Newton &TBI
I agree with the gentleman who made the comments about RAF Newton.
I am concerned that they will travel into the likes of Radcliffe-On-Trent
and Bingham and cause no end of problems. I am quite concerned about
using the Radcliffe-Bingham buses if this should happen, as a young
girl I would cycle or walk up to RAF Newton from Radcliffe and know
that it would take fit and well people no time at all to walk into
these places and ruin what is a lovely village in Radcliffe and a
nice town in Bingham, by hanging around and possibly begging for money
and intimidating villagers. Onto Trent Bridge Inn, I live on Radcliffe
Road and was very eager to see what changes were to be made and I
think it looks awful. It is effectively my local and was forced to
endure Casa while the changes were being made. Admittedly TBI did
need a new paint job but on the inside not the out. You would also
think that they would have promoted it's re-opening on a slighly larger
scale ie send out local promotional items. It certainly won't be my
local anymore!!! But at least they were forced to take down the big
Arena sign with the man with open arms which they had up and replaced
with smaller ones and the ghastly large sign that looked like a garage
/ advertising stand sign. Locals do seem to have some power and if
people object enough things get done, it may be too late for the TBI
but not RAF Newton. I fully support those people who are fighting
to not have these asylum seekers at RAF Newton in fact any of the
villages which the government has mentioned. I am not racist but am
getting fed up that we work to pay taxes and these people are going
to have a purpose built complex with doctors and education and entertainment
all free. DO YOU NOT WONDER WHY THESE PEOPLE ARE FLOODING TO BRITAIN?!?
They could never have these things FREE where they come from, if you
want to provide free this and that why not build a big sports and
entertainment complex on RAF Newton and let people use it for FREE
those people who actually pay for it!!! It's going to cost the same
in the long run!!

I personally think the notion of putting illegal immigrants in a place
like Newton is asking for trouble. It is a daft idea, not to mention
dangerous. They will have nothing to do all day so the chances are
that they will make trouble in our otherwise pleasant area.

Well Stan, what a holiday you are having. Your remarks on camera focussed
on crowd scenes, well this is normal for police attendance at such
an important event, and for your protection Stan. They are there to
prevent havoc, not produce it. Todays' match with Argentina, well, what
a super-splendid 1-nil performance by every position. That foul was
a spot-on verdict, and Beckham just 'did his job'. That ball must
have reached 70mph. A loud OOOHHHHH ! was heard throughout the land
when Owens' drive hit that post. It should have been 2-nil. I only
wish Teddy could have been put on a little earlier tho'. So now we
move on. Honour restored Stan. There is only one point I wish to comment
on and that is prior to kick-off when the National Anthem was played...
Does our team KNOW the words to sing ? and WHY the glum looks. Will
someone have a word with them and let us back home see a big smile
and please let us lip-read our anthem on their lips. Sing up lads...we
are very proud of you, whatever the final results are. b.clyde.

Here in Japan there seems to be only one story about England's performance
in the World Cup, and it all centres around the expectation that the
fans are here to cause trouble. Almost every time there's a camera

Lets hope it stays that way so England can finally shake off it's

Jubilee
I cant belive the amount of people are have selected 'stuff the Jubilee'
box on the flag tester. Sometimes the lack of pride and support for
this nation is pathetic. Shame on everyone who ticked that and everyone
who thinks that way, I for one hope you have a boring and unhappy
Jubilee weekend as you dont deserve to live in this country. There
is nothing racist or xenaphobic about showing support and faith to
your country. Even If you arnt't a Royalist you HAVE to agree that
Her Majesty the Queen has done a grand job, she has maintained dignity,
respect and politness throughout 50 years serving this country! I
dont no about any of you but I wouldn't fancy living my life in the
spot light, not just British spot light but International fame from
the day that I was born till that day that I die! You traitors with
ideas that the Royal family cost us billions of pounds each day and
we could have a better health service are misinformed traitors to
the flag, The Royal family costs us a very little amount and what
we earn back is considerably more, Most of you traitors vote Labour
or other left wing groups, Its things like your dome that cost us
money so For God Sake show some support, I mean she has had to put
up with that family of hers. Another thing without the Queen to moderate
things that Tony does we could end up with a constitution like the
French with a possible NAZI leader or even worse the American system
with a complete idiot mis-informed leader like George! Before you
make judgment about the Queen watch programmes like Queen and country
or the peoples Queen and you will then see Her Majesty in her true
colours and in her normal life, I mean she drives A Vauxhall Omega,
if I was Queen I wouldnt not have an Omega! The Queen has to read
and sign every document that passes through the House of Commons,
she really does have alot to do and as she says, its a life not a

PUT A ST GEORGES OUT TO CHEER ON THE LADS IN JAPAN. WE really have

RAF NEWTON & The TBI
COMMENT ABOUT RAF NEWTON, BNP & the TBI I think the prospect of the
BNP in Nottingham is quite real and worrying but can you blame people.
Like in NAZI germany the NAZI votes went up when their were problems,
this is what can be expected in Nottingham when the governement are
inflicting these people on the people of Newton. I think it is vital
to think of Britain as a bus, only so many people can get on and right
now the bus is full, and the bus isnt going to make any money if people
dont pay when they come on. Also the people who dont pay are often
the people who will cause the most damage to the bus, this will do
the bus no good and cause many people to resent the bus and turn to
people who plan to clean up the way. Its nothing to do with racsim,
a card that is played much to often often making the problem even
worse. We must now only accept asylum seekers that truly are in fear
of their lives, this mabey harsh and I do feel sorry for these people
but you do have to question theire motives when they have crosse!
d half the civilised world to get here, whats wrong with France? or
Germany? or any democratic country, it is just not economically viable
for every poor person to take up residence in Britain. And now a more
trivial thing, the Trent Bridge Inn, Six Continents have successfully
ruined a red brick victorian world renowned landmark. I held a conversation
with an Arena Pubs representive the other day after returning home
to Oxford from a week in Nottingham my home for 30 years. They said
they wanted to brightne the place up, I told them exactly what I and
many others thought. When I arrived in Nottingham and passed the landmark
that i had known since my childhood I was so angry! Some people have
no idea of history and retaining our past.

School Truancy
Education is a wonderful thing and an important aspect of life, BUT
it is not the be all and end all that people make it out to be. Society
has put education on a pedestal and the government have put a huge
pressure on children, by introducing the National Curriculum and various
targets, which as children they shouldn't be under. There is so much
more to life than 'education' and I am thrilled to hear that some
parents want to spend time with their children and go shopping on
a school day. Why not? I think it is wrong for kids and parents to
be hassled into school attendance, full time education for children
is compulsory for children aged 5-16 in this country but school attendance
is not. Parents can and do educate their children themselves at home
and those that do generally enjoy a closer relationship with their
children. Even if parents choose to send their children to school
for most of the time, surely there is no harm in taking them out periodically
to spend some time together. After all 'education' is not confined
to the classroom! I've not heard much discussion as to why children
do not want to be in school, but I suspect many can't handle the emotional
stress for whatever reason and/or the workload. I'm angry that schools
and authorities are so obsessed with getting their precious targets
met that they feel the need to hound pupils and prosecute parents.
Their time and energy would be put to better use if they addressed
the problems within the education system and made the appropriate
changes. Personally I think everyone needs to chill out and lighten
up.

Homosexuality
within the Church
My final comment on this issue is that I contend homosexuality within
the Church should be partitioned. viz: (Partition-A)- An active
person, who accepts they have both male and female in their "set-up"
and live their lives accordingly and, in the now democratic legalised
system. Providing the partnership does not intrude into the lives
of others in the community, and in a way that may affect the nature
of the area, then leave them alone. The problem is only evident
in the mind of the knowledgeable. (Partition-B)- A non-active person
who is aware that their "set-up" is shared by both male & female
genes ,but who, like many others, wish to lead a secular lifestyle, and
do so in many industrial, sporting, and yes, religious pursuits.
Is it not feasible therefore, that a person,(now referred to-as"gay")
who finds his karma is in the "arms of Christ",to approach the Church
Synod for their blessing to enter the priesthood after intense doctrination
and and selection? Such a person is no more likely to sin then our
very selves. Let the person who has never sinned, cast the first
stone ! The question of news about the abuse of children by some
american clergy suggests these are the acts peodophiles but does
not indicate these clergy are homosexual, but the finger of suspicion
is always pointed, without proof. We have now made, and live within
a multi-cultural society in the UK, enough problems in this connect
ion is overwhelming already as seen in the northern towns, where
approved ethnic communities are having problems with acceptance
into our society. This is increasing daily, as J.Foster describes,
by illegal entry into this country thro' the tunnel, which, I think,
has created "open house". The french police seem not too concerned
in my view, but I could be wrong. All in all, we have to bite the
bullet and learn to live, not only in the community, but within
ourselves without adopting the 3-monkeys attitude. A final note
to Bert of Durham: I hope this discussion, which has contained my
own personal thoughts and feelings and I do not represent any official,
or un-official body.It may not be the opinion of many other readers
to this column, but may have given you thoughts on the question
of homosexuality and helped in some way to your understanding and
approach to the question you asked. We are only mortal Bert, but
not weak.

Homosexuality within the Church
With regard to homosexuality and the Christian church. I can only
comment as a Christian. Bible scripture is clear on this matter
that a man should not lay with another man (women with another women).
Any practising homosexual would therefore need to abstain from sexual
activity before thier fellowship with God can be right. Homosexuals
are to be welcomed into the Church and through Gods love and the
work of the Holy Spirit shown their sin. As I said at the beggining
this is a Christian point of view from a people set apart who do
not and will not conform to the evil things of this world. Remember:
- To a believer (Christian) no explanation is necessary. To a none
believer no explanation is possible. May God continue to bless you.

A reply to
John Hall in Oranjemini,Namibia 24.5.2002
Good to have your views John on this very delicate issue, to which
every religious order has been trying to clear up for many decades
now. It has arrived at a point where, in particular the Roman Catholic
Church in the U.S.A. is almost on the verge of collapse with their
problems of paedophilia and homosexuality within the ranks of the
clergy. Not that these two are combined, after all, as one practising
christian said in a forum ; "What the hell has homosexuality got
to do with paedophilia ? they are two separate issues " There are
many debates going on at present regarding the abuse of children
by the US clergy which has reached a sickening level. 2000 clergy
are being investigated at the present time, although the US religious
leaders report that only 2% of priests have been pinpointed but
there is a 98% of priests who carry out their priesthood duties
in a highly commendable way. In the coming month all the Bishops
in the US will be called together for this matter to be debated.
This particular subject refers to paedophiles who have been actively
abusing small children and young boys in the seminary schools. This
is a tragic siuation, which could bring down the entire Catholic
Church if not dealt with, and could bankrupt its' status. This problem
however, involves all religious denominations within the worlds'
religious sects ; Catholics - Protestants - Hindus -Muslims- Sikhs
- Judism - to name but a few. This type of sin is regarded as a
small percentage of the clergy, in fact there are more paedophiles
in the non-clergy population in single units and even within family
groups, that have sinned, and still do. They are monsters within
our society. It is a pity this activity is regarded as a sin, and
not as criminal. Therefore the solution has to be dealt with by
citizens and not by our police as a criminal offence. (I think I
am correct?) However, John of Nimibia, I have digressed, I hope
I made my point about the other issue, being homosexuality within
the clergy, I emphasize that I referred to our acceptance of the
priests, who realise they have an inherent sexual condition (as
explained, in length, by my earlier postings to this column.) There
is a very tight investigation into their application for priesthood
and a lengthy psychological examination of their attitudes. If they
pass muster, then they may proceed to further teachings they must
adopt in a future assignment. These priests must not only perform
their duties by obiedience and sexual abstinence, but must be observed
obeying this Church law. Our practice of Christianity must move
with the times John, Gone are the days of meatless Fridays. Gone
are the days of obligatory mantillas in Church. Gone is the Latin
and the difficulty in its understanding. Gone is the attendance
in our Dioceseon Cathedral for Mothering Sunday service. (now referred
to as "Mother's Day" with a bunch of flowers for your natural mum,
with a card.) Whether ,or not, these changes have provided ; 'A
Church for the people' or 'People for the Church' I cannot comment.Don't
know! I do feel that change will have to come into its very structure
and admin, because discontentment on many of the methods and dogma
made many hundreds of years ago to an illiterate population, may
not be popular in todays' high literate society. Today,I feel Clergy
is looked upon, with respect, as a person doing a job, and bowing
in the street is no longer observed below the rank of a Lord Bishop.
Christian names are often used"off-duty", when there is no need
to have a reversed collar whilst 'sinking a pint' at the bar Surely
this attitude is conducive to bringing the Church and congregation
closer together and which could put "bums on pew seats" more regularly.
After all, Christ went out among his people, and did he not drink
wine with his followers. Sorry John if my edits have gone on far
too long, but I have my own personal views and I only express my
thoughts in high detail to avoid any misunderstanding or wrong interpretation
by readers. I was once asked, in view of my writings involving religion,
if I was an Agnostic ? Do you know, I had never, ever thought about
this and in fact, was not sure just what Agnosticism was. So I got
out my theosaurus and so began an insight into my approach to this
question. Quote: "AGNOSTIC- A believer in God as a faith, but not
by knowledge" Well, this information was as useful to me as a chocolate
teapot. I will carry on 'status quo' and trust I can answer the
three questions at Peters' three gates into heaven, when I fall
off my perch.

Illegal immigrants and the Euro Tunnel
Illegal immigrants and the Euro Tunnel I suppose I like most became
interested in the Euro Tunnel project, which caught the imagination
of the general public, as it would be one of the great engineering
feats of century. I remember the great benefits that we as a country
would enjoy, greater employment, and greater wealth of the country
and comments to the effect of feeling closer to Euro. There were comments
on the down side, which mainly revolved around the possibility of
Rabies being introduced into the country with animals finding their
way into the tunnel and into England. But it would seem the real problem
is that we are being for the want of a better word under siege, as
hundreds of illegal immigrants attack the poor defences on the French
side of the tunnel and it would seem tens of them arrive here in England
most days. There was a time when any illegal immigrant would be returned
to the point at which they attempted to enter the country. Why do
we now have to accept Illegal immigrants, as if its their right to
enter this country with out, any means of supporting them selves,
no place to live and we the residents are supposed to accept this
with out comment. Why are the French (it seems) so unwilling to ensure
that better security is in place at the French side of the tunnel?
And why does the English government appear to be doing very little
about the problem. Now it would seem we are to enjoy these illegal
immigrants locally at RAF Newton housing site, so not only will we
have to pay to support these people via general taxation now no doubt
the Nottingham Council rates will have to increase. Its no wonder
the illegal immigrants come here, once you get into the country, which
it appears is not to difficult you will be giving a place to live,
food and clothing, they would be insane not to try. Maybe its time
to close the Euro Tunnel we cannot afford it for much longer

I am so pleased you have picked up on this new discussion John. I
have read a lot of your postings to this website, and must express
my appreciation of your various comments. You have always made sense
I am sorry if my remarks were obviously not fully clear, so allow
me to put this matter to rights. Firstly, I was explaining to Bert
of Durham that homosexuality is a fault of nature and this is why
we have always had a problem with some people who do not know just
what they are, and consequently have suffered terribly up and until
they "came out" in revolt only a few years ago. Secondly John, I referred
to the very few homosexual clergy who were accepted into their religion
as priests and took the holy vow of celebacy and have kept faith with
it. Surely now, we cannot refuse communion in a church of God , because
of the priest's plight of nature. His suffering is, I suggest, very
much eased by prayer, and that the teachings of the church suffers
in no way and does not degrade our religious beliefs and convictions,no
matter which faith they have chosen. You referred to the problem the
United States have been having with peodophiles within their own churches
AND THIS IS A SEPARATE MATTER John. Of course His Holiness the Pope
has shown displeasure on this matter and rightly so,the problem is
being sorted. Offenders should be de-frocked and registered accordingly.
I refer back to Bert's original views which was simply; "homosexuality
within the church". In my first posting on this question, I attempted
to explain why and how this strange situation comes about and I hope
many will now accept, and not alienate anyone who may be of this nature.Question:
Are the dissenters prepared to shun the dozen or so regular church-goers
who may be "gay", and who attend service on Sunday in their church
? Please accept that I stand on no "soap-box" in this matter. I do
wish to emphasize that the matter of "gay" or "Straight" is with us,it
always has been, and will remain with us until the next BIG BANG,
but don't make it an unstoppable issue meeting an immoveable force, let
us move with the times in this legalised issue. Iremain, yours hetrosexually,B.Clyde.

and in reply...
I reply to your comments with the statement, I do not reply with emotion
only by what are "facts" in the bible. In the old testament there
are several references to homosexuality albeit fleeting in the bible,
Sodom and Gomorra being the most notable one where there is a statement
within the bible that states " man shall not lay with man or beast"
I cannot recall the page etc. In fact this is one of many reasons
that the two cities were destroyed and all its inhabitants. Which
presumably suggests that God was not happy with this kind of activity.
Regarding the clergy they are supposed to be chosen by God to take
up cloth, not the other way round, they are guided to the church by
God. This being the case I find it difficult to accept that on one
hand God destroys two cities full of people and then on the other
hand guides a homosexual to take up the priesthood. I however must
confess I had assumed these comments were aimed as what referred to
as active homosexuals, I could not be presumptuous to assume there
would be any difference in Gods eye. I only suggest that if the bible
teachings suggest that homosexuality is not acceptable in the eyes
of God, that being the case the no priest should be homosexual. Regarding
the people that attend church i.e. the members "flock" I accept that
all can attend church no matter what they are or have done or in fact
doing, they are supposed to be learning the ways of Christianity.
As for refusing communion I do not suggest this. All I am saying is
that the selection process for being a priest are determined by God
not by man. It is not for us to decide.

Homosexuality and the Church
I neither condone nor condemn homosexuality anywhere, but I must confess
that the church does seem to be drifting away from its roots. How
can the clergy expect respect and support of the general public? We
the "flock" are supposed to be led and guided in the ways of the Christian
religion, whichever denomination, what poor a poor example homosexuality
sets in the Christian church. I feel sure most of the clergy work
within the framework of the Christian religion but the few that do
not are the ones' that are remembered. What is surprising is that
nothing appears to be done about the guilty party, so do we assume
that the church supports homosexuality? As their action or lack of
it speaks louder than words. Regarding P Clyde's comments as I said
in the first paragraph of my posting "I neither condone or condemn
homosexuality anywhere" but the church and its teachings should be
respected, as for talent and intelligence this has little to with
the sex of the person. I have no problem with a gay actor, musician,
singer and many other occupations but I do have a great problem with
the clergy being gay, as a gay pastor degrades the very religion he
is supposed to believe in and support. There are other areas of great
concern even more than the homosexuality issue and that is the child
abuse by a few clergy as recently shown on national television the
Pope was showing his displeasure to some American clergy, over the
clergy sexually abusing children in their care.

and in reply...
My, oh My Bert,
you do like turning stones over don't you. For what-ever reason
you decided to raise this subject, you might try a little more insight
into the subject of homosexuality before you go public on it. Never-the-less,
I can understand your concern about this little mistake that nature
made during conception. You see Bert at the beginning of our lives
in our mother's womb, we were ALL FEMALE. Only after a little time
did our genes start getting organised and choosing which gendre
to promote. If you query this basic fact, why do you think you have
those two nipples on your chest mate ? Well, to continue, some babies
are born with equipment...BOYS. Some babies without equipment..GIRLS.
These anomolies were created during mum's lumpy period of 9+ months.
The next 12-13yrs and during puberty some people notice they have
a tendency to favour the intimate side of life and toward someone
of the 'same sex' male to male--female to female. This is due to
a small mistake, I believe, by nature. As you are aware, a male
going strong on a female, or a female going strong on a male is
good hetrosexual behaviour....Okay !! However,males with a possible
gene change may possibly see a similar person as a likely partner.
Being hetrosexual myself, I do not understand how this happens,
but learning the facts of this from published literature, I accept
the situation. Please understand that a homosexual person.. male,
or female, cannot help their situation and only because of the horrid
way they were treated during the 'closet' days was this information
kept sealed. Regarding your outburst about the Clergy, who are,
as we refer it today 'gay', I suggest is rather a Victorian attitude.
I admit there have been some who have let the side down, but how
many gay men can you name among the tens of thousands of church
leaders who daily perform their duties in God's name, who have acted
in a manner unbecoming their rank ? I suggest the gutter-press are
to take this responsibility. Tell me Bert.. Did you enjoy the jazz-music
of George Melle? The variety shows of 'My Kind of Music' The films
of Rock Hudson, Ivor Novello, to name but a few. They all 'came
out',-- and famous I, myself, know, have met, worked with, and played
sport with, many gay persons in my time and I can only express what
kind and considerate persons they are. Then, perhaps I have been
fortunate. So, Bert, don't be afraid to meet and talk with a man
you find is 'gay',or a woman who is'lesbian' Believe me, your honour
is not at stake !
