The mathematician and physicist Albert Einstein stayed in a cottage at Roughton in Norfolk during the 1930s, after he left Germany in the wake of Adolf Hitler's rise to power.

Einstein.

His visit to Norfolk was part of a tour of Europe before he settled in the United States, where he was granted permanent residency in 1935, taking up a position at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.

Einstein developed the special and general theories of relativity and won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921 for his explanation of the photoelectric effect.
