Susannah Gent's films have won her awards the world over. From the Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival to the Best New British Feature at 'Britspotting', critics are rating her work alongside some of the top in the business.
In part two, Susannah shares some tips on promoting a film, dealing with critics and gives advice for new film makers.
Q1. What made you take up film making?
I came from very much an arts background… the sort of films I started watching were European art house, that's where I got my main influences.

Q2. Do you think formal training is important?
I don't think the formality of the training is what's important… it's possibly easier (to have formal training) but I don't think it's essential.

Q3. How much can you learn from other people?
I have found that watching a lot of interesting work… is very creatively stimulating.

Q4. How do you get your cast and crew lined up for a short film?
Communication is the main thing. Early on you can find there are ego problems on a set… you need to find people with a like mind who believe in the project.

Q5. What sort of equipment do you need to get into film making?
Nowadays you can get hold of mini DVs all over the place. Film making has never been easier.
