Susannah Gent's films have won her awards the world over. From the Silver Hugo Award at the Chicago International Film Festival to the Best New British Feature at 'Britspotting', critics are rating her work alongside some of the top in the business.

Here Susannah shares some of her film making experiences, from the excitement of creating award winning short films to the difficulties of dealing with poor reviews.

Q6. How do you go about promoting a film?

I think the short film festival circuit is fantastic for promoting a film... and never be snobbish about where you put your film on.

Q7. How do you deal with critics?

In future I would would take the advice and not read bad reviews as you can take them personally, especially if you've invested a lot in the work.

Q8. Why do you think the film making industry seems male dominated?

I don't know why it's male dominated... but certainly through the short film environment I have come through I've never found it a disadvantage to be female in all this.

Q9. What films would you recommend new film makers should watch?

Watch 'Mirror' by the Russian director Tarkovsky, it's very unusual… and it allows space for thought.

Q10. Have you got some advice for new film makers?

It's quite important to experiment… and don't despair at making huge errors during filming.
