Labour has announced it has suspended national election campaigning. Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said he was "shocked and horrified by the brutal attacks in London".

Mr Corbyn said the party had suspended national campaigning until at least Sunday evening after "consultation with other parties".

The SNP says it has "suspended all national campaigning in the General Election today".

A spokesperson added that "no decision has been made whether or not Nicola Sturgeon will take place in tonight's 91�ȱ� Question Time debate in Edinburgh."

According to Reuters, the Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said two Australian citizens were caught up in the attack, one of whom was confirmed to be in hospital.

The 91�ȱ�'s Cherry Wilson is at the scene of the attack, where she says empty pint glasses remain on tables in bars along Borough High Street from where people fled last night.

• French President Emmanuel Macron said "France is more than ever at Britain's side."
• German Chancellor Angela Merkel said "we are united beyond all borders in horror and sorrow, but also in determination."
• US President Donald Trump tweeted: "Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the UK, we will be there - WE ARE WITH YOU. GOD BLESS!"
• President of the European Council Donald Tusk said "Europe stands by UK in fight against terrorism."
• European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said his "thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."
• Spanish leader Mariano Rajoy offered "solidarity and support" to Britain.
• Australian leader Malcolm Turbull tweeted: "Prayers and resolute solidarity are today as always with the people of Britain".

Prime Minister Theresa May is due to chair a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee at 10 Downing Street this morning and will make a statement at about 10:00 BST.

Mark Rowley, assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and the national police lead on counter terrorism, is among those to arrive for the meeting.

The hospital is next to London Bridge station and was on lockdown earlier.

Liam and Claudia, who live above the Southwark Tavern, in Borough Market, say they were watching a film when they heard the attack in the street below.

They told the 91�ȱ� there was "mass panic" in the street and people were "covered in blood".

The French president's office says it is "putting everything in place" to assist French citizens who have been injured in the attack:

London Bridge station will remain closed for the rest of the day and Borough Tube station is also shut.

The 91�ȱ�'s Cherry Wilson is at the scene of the attack, saying hospital staff and railway workers are struggling to get to work due to the police cordon.

William Gendo, a chef at nearby Guy's Hospital, said: "It's completely closed. There's no way to get through. We've been trying for a few hours."

He said he woke to the news of the attack this morning with friends and family contacting him to see if he was okay.

He said:

Estefany Alcivar, who is a kitchen assistant at the hospital, said she had been told staff were staying on to do extra hours and help patients with their food.

"We don't know what to do," she said. "There will be no hot food but they will have sandwiches and tea and coffee."

She said she felt "worried" hearing about the attack: "It's very near my work and I'm in London Bridge all of the time. It feels weird."

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon described the attack in London as "horrific". She said she will chair a meeting of the Scottish government's resilience committee later.

"My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives and with everyone who has been harmed or affected by these terrible incidents," she added.

The London Ambulance Service says it took patients to these five London hospitals:

• St Mary’s Hospital, London
• St Thomas’ Hospital
• University College Hospital
• King’s College Hospital
• The Royal London Hospital

It also says it treated "a number of others at the scene for minor injuries".

Eyewitness Tyson Oladokun was on London Bridge immediately after the incident.

"I saw a man lying in the road being cradled by another man. I think I saw someone that had been stabbed and other people who I think had died," Mr Oladokun told the 91�ȱ�.

Mr Khan went on to praise the “swift” response of police and emergency services. He said people should remain “calm and vigilant” and “carry on their normal business”.

"We have showed over the last decades our stoicism and we will show that in the coming days."

He said the UK threat level remains at severe, having been raised to critical for a short time after the Manchester attack.

Mr Khan told the 91�ȱ� it was not a mistake to lower the level and that Londoners would see an increased police presence over the coming days, including armed officers.

“It is important to do all we can to ensure we are safe,” he says, rejecting calls for this week’s general election to be postponed.
