Slimbridge
Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust is located on the edge of the River Severn estuary
and provides an ideal location to watch winter bird life
The Severn estuary
and its surrounding flood plain is a mixture of mud flats and lush wet grassland
which provide ideal wetland habitats for a diversity of wildfowl and wading birds.
"Sadly
we've lost a huge number of our wetlands - some disappeared when we expanded our
towns and cities, and others were lost when we improved the land to farm. But
it's not all doom and gloom because these days we've got some fantastic restored
wetlands - places where human effort has brought the wildlife alive".
