Men chasing cheese

Watch the cheese, mud & madness again!

Watch again our exclusive videos of the five official downhill races at the Cheese Rolling Festival 2008, held on Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire.

The annual Cheese Rolling event took place at Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire on Monday 26 May 2008.

The conditions were a bit damp to say the least, but that didn't put off the brave competitors and the thousands of spectators from turning out to watch the madness.

Use the links below to watch all five races (including the now infamous false start to race 5)...

Chris & friends, before and after the cheese roll

Now go through it yourself and read Chris Hodgkin's story, as he spends the last year psyching himself up and then finally takes a roll himself.

what a strange thing to do! this is probably the most outrageous thing i've ever heard of. i would NEVER do anything like that.

sounds and looks like a dangerous and overwhelmingly wet sport and terrifying!. but the cheese must taste lovely.

I think it is fun to do but it could sevearly hurt someone. Rolling down a hill after cheese is not the most glamorous of things but it makes a good crowd

Macca

i was in it i was soaked but i really enjoyed it i want to do it again :) LOVELY

Not so Mr Happy
I was unfortunate enough to wait patiently in the rain at the top of Cooper's Hill for over an hour and half only to be one of about a dozen guys shoved off the hill by the surge of the crowd from behind! My chance of entering went sliding prematurely and that was that! A number of people were being crushed also in the mix. The entry system needs changing to give a fair chance to those who turned up early. A simple registration system or proper fencing for queuing may be a start. I don't want health & safety to take over but some fair and decent organisation isn't too much to ask for as reward for those who put their bodies on the line.
