The Great British (and Irish) pub GP

Post categories:

Jake Humphrey | 12:11 UK time, Sunday, 11 July 2010

So I mentioned it in my last blog and gave you a picture as a bit of a teaser - and now we can reveal the Great British (and Irish) pub GP.

If our 91Èȱ¬1 show got you in the mood for some F1 quiz action, here's an even fuller version for you - with a load of footage that we didn't have time to show in the main programme. If you want to see how the McLaren boys, Radio 1 and Eddie and me managed to build our own F1 cars, then it's well worth a watch. I hope you enjoy it, we all had fun doing it - and fair play to quiz-master for keeping the rowdier ones in check.

And who won the quiz? Well let's just say that at the end of the day the teams couldn't be separated by our scorer, darts legend .

Knowing how competitive we all are, that's probably for the best!

My grandson, Nathaniel Clark McGinn, was born this morning. He will be a third generation F1 fan. We support Jenson all the way,as he is our 'local' boy. We live just a few miles from Frome. Good luck for the rest of the season, Jenson.

"The Ferrari team is stuck in traffic and couldn't make it." Har har! :-D

    "Chris you good with arrows?"
    "No"
    "Neither was Damon Hill"

    LOL!

Al Murray should be a Formula 1 commentator. He's so funny!

Why did McLaren not give Jenson as much fuel as Lewis so he could challenge for 3rd at his home GP, as clearly Lewis was pushing all the way throughout the race and they did not ask him to turn down his fuel. From Annabel Pratt - a lifelong Jenson fan

What an amazing race. Shame Jenson just could not push for 3rd.
But what i really wanted to say was congratulations to the 91Èȱ¬ F1 team and 91Èȱ¬ sports. The coverage of the 60th anniversary British Grand Prix was immense. the whole programme was fantastic and I really think it should win an award. I would certainly vote for it as best sports coverage for 2010. Just one small glitch though, please give us the F1 coverage in HD!!

If we could have an alternative commentary for future races, could you get Chris Moyles and Al Murray to do that? Would love to hear their version of a race!

Great race, great video; just great all round! Well done Jake and the team keep up the amazing coverage.

    @ 11

I think it would be more informative and exciting than Legard! lol

jake, the best coverage of any sport as usual

I thoroughly enjoyed the pub-quiz item on todays show. What great sports Lewis and Jenson are, esp as their time is so precious on British GP weekend...!

I was also impressed with Sebastian Vettel's comments aboout the British GP and the fans. He's a good sport too...!

Last but not least, I'm particularly pleased that Mark Webber won today. Good that he (er) bounced-back, so to speak, after that frightening crash. That's exactly what I wanted to see him do...!

    This is so funny!

Race was great. It was a shame that Jenson or Lewis didn't win it but Mark Webber deserved it and what a way to come back at the team.

I have to compliment the 91Èȱ¬ team on this weekends coverage. I think Jake, DC and EJ have come of age and provided us with the most entertaining coverage so far since the 91Èȱ¬ won back the rights. They surely proved that we have the best sports coverage in the world, it is obvious that even many of the drivers enjoy the coverage and get involved wherever possible. It certainly made for great viewing, well done Jake and the team.

The pub quiz segment was excellent, the race was excellent, this weekend in general has been excellent. Lucky 91Èȱ¬.

Great coverage all round, and it was so good to see Murray Walker back on our screens - well done in the forum. It could so easily have seemed like too many cooks, but it worked very well.

If you do get him back again, please please get him to commentate on the start (or similar).

Also great to see the post race interviews, particularly former teammates Jenson and Rubens - nice to see that they get on and have respect for each other. The double-driver interview worked better than I thought it might, if you get two that get on that well again, it'd be great to see it.

Also, I've got to admit - after the way Red Bull treated Mark, I actually would prefer him to take the title now. Red Bull gives you wings... shame you didn't pick up on that!

    Hi Jake,

Excellent blog - haven't seen the race coverage on TV yet as I attended the race yesterday (Sunday). The atmosphere was awesome and everything was so much better than my last visit back in 2006. We had fantastic seats and the hospitality was excellent.

The race too was brilliant and the fans were outstanding. Shame Lewis didn't get the win but for McLaren to finish 2nd and 4th was a brilliant result.

Excellent win for Webber, I do like Webber but Red Bull as a team are a hostile team. Webber just needs to keep his head down. It'll be interesting so see if he stays with the team dispite signing a new contract.

Roll on 10th July 2011 as I maybe coming to next years race!

Hi folks can I just say what a pleasure the British Grand Prix has been to watch over the weekend. Unlucky for jenson but to come from 14th on the grid and snatch 4th place really shows the calibre of a modern racing driver over the weekend, they've just dug in on got on with the job. Also many thanks as a licence payer I have been delighted with the coverage and long may it continue. I'm not against keeping things formal but to the crew on F1 lighten up you present the best show in global motor sport and you guys are good at what you do leave E.J's clothes alone LOL

The best coverage i have ever seen and great pub quiz, more more more pls. 1st and 2nd next race please guys!

    Jake and the Gang,
A Great Weekend, and the coverage was excellent as well.
Well Done for the show, would have been nice to got Sir Stirling back for the Forum, especially when you were in the BRDC.
Great to see Murray as enthusiastic as ever.
Think my comment about Alonso at the Valencia GP is now proving to be accurate.
Keep up the great work, and will be watching the German GP.

Great coverage. Nice to see a cameo from the Ledge in that vid.
Highlight of the British GP weekend? Happened on Friday. We had just walked into our campsite (which we've used since 1987, ran by the legendary Cecil Webb so many thanks to him for all the years of camping in his field, I started going in 1998) and there was a big crowd. My Dad ignores it and heads to a convertible Jag and then goes back to the tent. I investigate what this crowd is looking at and to my delight I see it's you Jake and EJ cooking sausages!
I did try and say hello but there was no way with all your dedicated fans all around so I just took photos and uploaded one on Twitter and tagged you!
Thanks again to you and EJ for visiting our campsite.

No one seems to have an answer for Vettel's puncture. He didn't feel Hamilton, and Hamilton didn't feel a touch either. However, if you look at the footage of Vettel getting out of his car after qualifying, he looks at one of his tyres (i.e. right rear, I think) and pulls some debris from it. Could that be the source of the puncture?

Loved this video. Jenson and Lewis are really coming out of their shells this year, and a lot of this is down to how you are encouraging them. I really enjoyed Jenson's joshing with DC and Reubens live on camera on Sunday - clearly there is great camaraderie between the drivers, and it's brilliant to see that - particularly with the Webber/Vettel situation deteriorating.

All in all, great coverage this weekend, team. I love the respect and understanding that you show to the F1 drivers/team principals, yet that you are willing to ask the difficult questions. From the reactions you get (and the willingness to be interviewed), it is clear that they respect you all too.

My only (and very minor) negative would be doing so much of the post-race coverage in a public area, thus giving the chance for folks to stand behind you on the phone mouthing "hello Mum" etc. Very distracting, particularly when you were asking tough questions of the RedBull and Ferrari team principals!

I don't know if anyone else picked up a comment made by Lee McKenzie when she was rounding up the Formula 1 news...

"After his accident in Valencia last time out, Mark Webber landed in London this week..."

Blimey, that was a bigger, longer and higher accident than I think we all realised!

Keep up the good work guys, loved the coverage as always!
