Unity
Description
Theodore Gericault, Robert Delauney, Constable and Andrea Mantegna鈥檚 works explore concepts of proximity, simplicity, repetition and continuation, which create unity within Art and Design. Theodore Gericault uses simplicity in 鈥楾he Raft of Medusa鈥 by showing a mass of people who are grouped together. Further unity is seen with the subjects sharing the same tones and colours. Robert Delaunay uses repetition in his painting 鈥楥arousel with Pigs鈥. The circles that repeat throughout the painting are of a similar style, creating unity in the artwork. John Constable uses continuation in 鈥楩latford Mill (Scene of a Navigable River)鈥. Individual elements unify the painting 鈥 the path next to a river is lined with trees and bushes, leading the viewer into the painting. Andrea Mantegna uses proximity, with the subjects in his painting 鈥楾he Court of the Gonzaga family鈥 sitting near each other whilst wearing similar clothing to create unity.
