Data handling and interpretation
Description
A demonstration on how to collect data about favourite flavours of ice cream and organise the data into a block graph. How can we find out which is the most popular ice cream flavour? We could try asking the question 鈥楧o you like ice cream?鈥 but is this a suitable question? If not, why not? We must ask the right questions to get the right data. Once collected, it is important to sort the data. You can display data visually in a block graph for easy interpretation.
Classroom Ideas
Students could create a question for a class survey. They could collect their own data based on answers from their fellow students and arrange it into a large block graph as shown in the clip. Topics for surveys could be favourite foods, favourite animals, favourite seasons and so on. Students could then analyse the results and answer a series of related questions. For example, which is the most popular season, food or animal? Which is the least popular?
