Description
The presenter provides a lively consideration of the major themes of The Cone Gatherers by Robin Jenkins. 鈥 Conflict: set at the time of the Second World War, conflict is seen in the battle between good and evil, social classes, man and nature and man鈥檚 internal struggles. 鈥 Nature is represented as both beautiful and cruel. Calum symbolises the innocence of the natural world and is frequently referred to using animal imagery. 鈥 Religion: The forest represents the Garden of Eden, Calum, the figure of Adam and Duror the serpent. Overall, Duror symbolises evil and Calum symbolises goodness. 鈥 Class: is represented at all levels.
