The Moray Firth

Description

Trainee Tour Guide Tess visits the Moray Firth to see if she can spot seals and dolphins. Inverness stands at the mouth of the River Ness at the end of the Great Glen. The water flows into the Moray Firth, Scotland鈥檚 largest estuary, where fresh water from the river mixes with salt water from the sea. The Firth is home to dolphins and seals.

Classroom Ideas

Students could identify the Moray Firth on a map and highlight the paths of waters leading into it. They could use two different colours to highlight the sources of fresh water to the Moray Firth and the sources of sea water. Students could then explore other animals that Tess could spot in the Firth. They could investigate what these animals feed on and why they come to the Moray Firth.
