Description

Classroom Ideas

This clip could be used as background to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Explore the background of legal support for the 鈥榮eparate but equal鈥 doctrine. In particular the Plessy v Ferguson case of 1896 could be looked at and specifically compared with the actions of Rosa Parks and the Freedom Riders. Look for evidence on the quality and availability of segregated facilities and discuss whether this supports or opposes the idea of equal treatment.
